Ok let me get the spec in first.

Xeon 3210 2133mhz quad core
4 x 6400hz gskill 1gb sticks.
Gigabyte P35 DS3p
Points of view 8800gts 640mb
Seasonic s12 600watter & Jeantech Storm 700watter
2 x 74gb raptors in raid 0

ok running both 32bit and 64bit vista ultimate.

Right thats the scene, onto the problem.

My machine seems to stall when playing games or browsing the web.
Its over clocked to 3.4ghz and has been for nigh on 6 months now.
so the fsb is at 430mhz x 8.

Now this was 100% stable tested with mem test for over 8 hours and various other torture tests.

Playing wow with my brother in law while chatting on skype the machine started to lag (only way to describe it) the sound stuttered and everything just slowed down. Temps on the cpu were 55c max

This is happening all the time now, after about 10mins use the machine will lag.

I have replaced the psu with the storm, which is showing healthy 5v and 12v rails. the machine has just passed yet another mem test at stock settings for 8 hours.

The graphics card has been stable at 61c while playing wow (joys of having dual setup lol can run other proggys on second screen while testing)

Now to the odd part, if i set the overclock back to stock all is well.
When even slightly clocked the mem test time goes abit weird, it speeds up

say for example 51...52...53...54...55

yet when clocked i get 51.52...53...54...55.56

time speeds up and then goes back to normal and then speeds up again

I really am stumped. as no one piece of hardware seems to be failing.

Wondering if my cpu is on its way out. Its been at 3.4ghz for the last 6 months under water and at 1.45v temps never going above 60c on full load.

Any suggestions :(

Any tests need to be vista compatible.

I would say that sometimes even torture tests like Orthos and memtest don't fully make your computer stable, and using it is the only real way to fully test the machines stablity. If you are experiencing issues like stability then you might want to knock say 200mhz of the overclock and see if you still get the same issues.

Another thing is, are you using the JMicron ports on the motherboard? I've always found the JMicron ports to be notoriously bad when handling large files and sometimes when you use large files it causes the machine to lock up or stutter for a few moments. Such as downloading a 100 MB file from the Internet sometimes can lock up the browser when the download reaches 100% for about 10 seconds then it'll go back to normal and work fine. If you are using the JMicron ports then you might want to try on the ICH9 ports.

Hey flibby,

cheers for that, im afraid its not the raid or the over clock, if i overclock the board by 1mhz now i see all this slow down.

Im wondering if its the cmos battery? Has anyone seen this before?

Raid wise im using the ich9.

Quick update, the mobo passed 8 hours of memtest lastnight with the cpu at 3552mhz fsb at 440 mem at 880.

Will have to do some more testing tonite. Really weird.

Any other suggestions.
