Hi all,

Pretty much for a few months now ive been suffereing a werid problem with my home network. every few minutes the network dies i.e ill lose connection to the router, sometimes ill be able to ccess the router other times i wont. Ive tried 2 netgear routers and 1 belkin which strikes as odd, as whtherther the net connection drops or not i still cant access the router. I used to think it was my powerline adaptors however it happens on wireless aswell and straight wired (although less often) Finally the weirdest thing is that it will happen while downloading and sometimes browising but never while playing online games CSS etc... ive found the only way to stop it doing this is to ping the router CONTSTANTLY, and even then sometimes it will mess up a bit, i.e when pinging 3 out of 4 packets will be 1-2ms then the 4th packet will be 300ms, which strikes as odd.

Please help me figure out whats wrong with my stupid network :D

(ive reinstalled windows many times on all 3 of the pc's that i have tested this on, even tried 2 different wirelss cards and a few intel lan cards as well as onboard lan. so it is a really odd problem.

Guess you just need to keep eliminating possible causes.

Youve tried different routers so for the moment you can assume theyre not responsible and youve also tried different connection methods so you cant really just blame one of those.

Id suggest testing this with another computer but I know thats not always practical.

If you manager to change everything and have the same problem whilst using completely different hardware then it doesnt leave much else :P

Try pinging 127.0.0.1 constantly and monitor it. The fact it doesn't cause issues in games is interesting as most games use UDP as a transport protocol whereas browsing and downloading are more than likely using TCP as a transport protocol. Based on that i'd look possibly at re-installing/repairing the TCP/IP stack.
