Weird problem with Hyper-V integration services

Got a weird one here.

Server 2008 SP2 hosting a Vista SP2 guest VM. When I try to install the integration services, the installer runs through and tells me it's installed successfully but, critically, the success message has no instruction to reboot as usual.

When I check the installed programs, there's no trace of the integration services and indeed they're not installed. Rebooting does nothing. I can install them again and again with the same effect.

Anyone ever come across this before?

Yep. Happens with Vista SP2

We resolved it by installing Vista SP1 and then connecting to WU on the VM

Well I've not found any reports of this type of problem. It also happened on SP1 - I tried upgrading to SP2 to see if anything changed.

Odd. The original fix for integration services not installing in Vista was to upgrade the Host to SP2 but you've already done that.

I have no issue installing IS on a Vista SP1 guest.

Anything in Event viewer?

The host SP2 issue is a different one - whereby you get an error saying your version of Windows needs updating when you try to install the integration services.

As I said, the services appear to install without errors for me, it's just that they haven't actually installed at all. It's very weird.
