i recieved my copy of vista ultimate today. i installed and i have the system working great.
the problem happens when i restart my computer (for any reason).
if i dont have the vista dvd inside the drive, i get the not a system disk, insert disk and press enter (or something along those lines)
this happens even with the drive alone (all other drives including dvd drive removed)
any help ?

yes vista is the only os.
boot drive is cd : vista hd : then nothing.
even if i put vista hd on its own, it tries to boot from the cd.
its so weird as i didnt do anything on the bios (update or anything like that)

Sounds like the bootloader got fubarred. How many hard drives have you got and what combination SATA/PATA. What type of drive do you want to install it on?

i stripped down all the drives, installed vista on another drive (pata 200gb) and then i connected all the drives again.
works like a charm now :)

That's pretty much what I was going to suggest leave the drive you want to install on attached, when it reboots, then set the bios to hard drive. Then attach the other drives when it's fully installed.
