Weird Problem?

I know this might be appropriate in the HDD section, but then again its quite general....

I've put together my system as detailed in my sig and all is well, except for the fact that I can't connect my DVD-RW because the cable (IDE) isnt long enough. So here's the dilemma, I changed the cable to a longer one that I just bought, but if I use this cable, it doesnt recognise my HDD or CD. I've now tried 2 different longer IDE cables, that both fit, but if I try to use them, it won't recognise my HDD or DVD-RW, and I cant find them if I use the BIOS either.... It's quite a strange problem, anybody know what I can do ?

Thanks in advance,

Kiz

so presumably ** hdd is ide 1 master?

then the optical drives are on ide 2 as master n slave?

is this how you have set it up when its not being recognised?

I cant do that, seeing as there is only 1 IDE port on my Mobo.....any other suggestions?

Both drives are connected via IDE;

The HDD is set as master and the optical set as slave. So I presume that if I connect the cable to the drives the HDD will be primary master and the optical will be primary slave. But this isn't working!

try connecting just the optical to see if that works? and what it shows as (i.e. master, slave) on post screen....

its your jumper settings for sure...

try putting the optical to master and hdd to slave

or better still put the hdd on master and optical on cable select or vice versa
