after the lighting storm on tuesday i came home from work and my router was dead. i rang orange and they sent me another power supply i recived it the next day connected it and all seems fine apart from my phone won't work when the router is pluged in. if i plug my phone directly in the wall its fine any ideas what the problem could be ive rang bt and orange with no succses.

Sounds like the microfilter that is used to seperate the call signals from the broadband signals has also been affected by the lightning, they cost pennies to make and as such don't have a very long lifespan.

ive changed the filters still no joy

Double check you've connected them correctly. You've got all the symptoms of a problem with the filters. It might also be worth borrowing some 'known good' filters from a friend. It might also be worth plugging into the BT test socket seeing if that makes a difference. You can only do this if you have the type of BT socket that's in two halves. Unscrew the bottom half and remove it, there's another socket underneath.

everything has been changed apart from router but the net is working fine and downloading at full speed fine too. maybe trying a new router will sort it out.
