I keep getting blue screens at the moment for a variety of reported reasons. Having done a bit of detective work I found that vista (x64) was reporting my RAM in task manager as 4093 available, 3158 cached and 53 free.

Is this right or is it a potential problem. If it is a prob anyone got any ideas what the solution might be? (no prizes for first person to say go to XP :))

Cheers for the help all

Yeah, I am running everything at stock at the moment to try and solve it.

Most of the time it bsod with IRQL not less or equal error or sometiimes the malicious code was trying to run and very rarely a different one I cant remember.

It is getting so annoying now tho, was fine a week ago now it is crashing loads.

any ideas more than welcome

First steps i'd say would be to do a run of memtest86, a good dozen or so passes.

If it throws up errors, then fiddle about with ram timings and ram sticks. Find out which ones are faulty, if all report faulty when you have them at proper voltage and stupidly relaxed timings its possible it could be the motherboard... nVidia are known for dodgy memory controllers :(.

Could be something other than motherboard mind you.

I have run Memtest86+ but only for one pass, i thought that would be enough, i will run it longer tonight. I also ran the vista mem test. both reported no errors.

A dozen passes will throw up anything obvious, when i had problems and was trying to obtain a stable setup after putting 2 more ram sticks in, it ran the first 3 passes error free then the 9 after contained an error of somewhat.

Memtest is the best option as running a ram test whilst in OS can't test the ram being used by said OS, let us know how you get on :D
