Weird resolution scaling problems

Getting an issue with some games and my U2711 to do with resolution scaling. So far only noticed it in Payday 2 and Rome Total War II. Basically I want to set the games to 1920x1080 (my monitor is 2560x1440 native) but for some reason the picture my monitor actually receives is 1920x1200 with black bars across the top and bottom.

Any ideas?
