Im in the process of doing a bit of an upgrade on my finance's sons PC..
It wasnt working when i got it. no power it seemed but after taking it to bits and rebuilding it started first time.
ive got an SSD , new OS , gpu and a few other bits coming but the problem atm is when the pc is shut down it just boots up again after a couple of seconds.
I did think it may just rectify itself once the new OS is installed and fresh drivers installed but thought id see if any one had any thoughts what could be causing it to do this

seen this before many times ive always felt it was a hardware/mobo issue, but possible its software related, if anyone else can confirm this ?

only way to be 100% is to reload windows... and then try the shut down again and see if it totally shuts off.

Reseting bios is worth a go also...

either way im not 100% but always suspected mobo and sometimes I was right the mobos had leaked capicitors with battery acid coming out, these pcs always restarting upon shutting down!

One of those issues where you need to determine which piece of hardware is faulty, start by booting it in to bios and performing a hard drive self test to see if the hard drive is possibly faulty - and then booting in safe mode and turning the machine off may determine if it is software related, which I highly doubt.

Yea looks like the diagnosis will have to wait until the new HD arrives Saturday,
hopefully once the new OS is installed all will be good but ill keep you posted if not ;)

I had this on a previous pc I built, I removed the CMOS battery, left it out for about 10 minutes or so, then put it back in :)

The same thing was happening on a system I built for my sister last week. Turns out one of the ram modules was faulty. Once I'd discovered which module was faulty I removed it from the system and it booted fine.

Mmm ok well new OS installed . BIOS updated . CMOS cleared
still refuses to switch off , even with switch isolated .
starting to think the mobo may be fubar but apart from this minor issue it works fine
