Weird room question

2 rooms in my house hav weird ventalation grate things in 2 of the bedrooms.

Is there any reasons for this? Can I block them up with cardboard to stop cool damn air coming in my room?

or are these vital for some house air flow thing?

You can usually close them, but if yours can only be open then I don't know.

They must have some purpose.

Block them off at your peril ..... or rather, look out for damp if you block 'em.

I have one in my room above my desk which I taped up.. the cold air was blowing down onto my right hand and making it completly numb

Just tape it up and open a window if it gets stuffy.

Yea unless its to remove damp, then blocking it up for short periods should be ok, but blocking it off permantly is not recommended, it was put there for a reason!

Put a new one on with a slider on/off function, then you can turn it off during winter and on during summer
