So last week I brought a pair of Steelseries arctic 5s.
plugged them in installed all the software and started using them. later I was using them and all of a sudden I stop getting any sound from TeamSpeak (the arctics put voice in one channel and other sound in one) my normal game sound continues to work and once the round I'm playing ends I cant find a way to restart the comms sound short of turning the pc off.
2 days later the opposite problem occurs the game sound stops and the voice continues, again the only way I can find to re enable all sound is to turn off and on. so I take the headset back and get a refund.
today because I still want to update my sound kit I purchase the Sennheiser CSX1000 USB soundcard /amp thingie thinking it will at least improve my current 3.5mm headset (which I have used for 4+ years with no problems)
low and behold 10 minutes into a game and all game sound dies (voice is still ok again the sennhesier puts them on different outputs)
I'm really confused about what the problem could be and willing to try anything to resolve.
to clarify when I say game sound its actually all sound that isn't through the voice channel as I cant play music in iTunes etc.
also I'm on windows 7 not sure what other useful info I can give.
any help appreciated
