Weird Sound Problems :(

Hi there, having some problems with my sound. I'm using on-board sound card and I get a crackling noise as though I was listening to music with high volume on a cheap headset although I'm not.

When I change the jack to the front jack port it's fine, this is weird as it should be using the same driver as it's using the same on-board sound card right?

Would be much appreciated if someone could help me out.

Motherboard: Gigabyte H55M-UD2H
Headset: Razer Carcharias

Thanks and kind regards

That's strange. Normally it's the front case sockets where people get sound problems, which are prone to picking up interference. One would expect that if crackling noises are heard by using the main rear connections, the same would apply to the front case sockets, as they are connected to the same sound device.

Has it always done this, or has it only started to happen recently?

Possible it could be the headset cable picking up interference. When you connect the headset to the rear of the case, does the cable come into contact with other cables, or is it close to other cables? If so, you could try moving it away, see if it the noise goes away, or if you can hear a change in the crackling sound by moving the cable.

Good morning and thanks for replying. I'm not sure if this has only just started happening as I usually use a USB headset. It is only recently that I have purchased the Carcharias and noticed this.

There are no cables coming into contact with the headset cable although there are some close to it. Are there any cables in particular that are known to cause interference with headsets?

Sounds like dirt in the socket. My suggestion would be to grab a can of compressed air and give it a good clean.

When I get back home I'll give the rear jack port a clean and hopefully that will fix the problem.

Thanks again for the replies.

Unfortunately cleaning the port didn't do anything, would you recommend buying a sound card? If so which would you recommend, keep in mind I don't really want to spend too much.

Thanks!

The headset cable picking up interference was a long shot TBH. It can happen, but I suspect it's not an issue for most people. Dirt in the socket, is also another possibility, but again, I suspect it wouldn't be a common problem. These were long shots really, as there isn't anything else that really stands out as an explanation, not that I can think of anyway.

Buying a sound card is a good idea. Xonar DG is a great sound card for anyone not wanting to spend to much.
