Weird temps

2GB Geil 6400 ddr2 Low latency
Scythe Ninja revision B

Now I am getting mixed results here.

1) With fan on idle temps are 42/40
2) with fan off idel temps are 36/36

Whats going on here then?? With the fan on aren't the temps supposed too be lower..

and that bloody humming sound coming from the motherboard is doing my head in.

It depends. If the airflow through your case is disrupted by the CPU fan then it could be stopping cooler air from entering. If you are happy with the temps then leave it off!
