My monitor is very poor for watching videos on. Now was not expensive, but ive seen £70 monitors look fine. It's not sad bad in games all though a few games look very poor. But Bad company 2 on other hand looks ok on it.

Best way to describe what im seeing, is it's like watching a oil paiting, very smudgy and broken up, nothing sharp or clear. Yet on my laptop the videos when comparing both look totally different. Here is a still i took which kind of explains what i mean.

May I ask a few questions if you don't mind:

Do you have the graphics card set to the correct resolution and refresh rate? (1680 x 1050 @ 60Hz) Also, do you have up-to-date graphics drivers?

What video player are you using and what is the quality of the videos you are having problems with? Also, what is the resolution of your laptop screen?

YES

YES

All videos look poor, from Youtube, JTV, Sky Sports website, every single video is blury and looks smudged.

Laptop is 16" TFT 1366 x 768

Ah, so streamed internet video?

Have you got the latest version of flash player and silverlight (you may even want to try the beta versions)? If so, it may just be the fact that the videos are not very high quality (low bitrate, low resolution) and don't display as well on your high resolution desktop monitor when compared to your lower resoltion, smaller pixel laptop screen. How does this high quality youtube video play on your desktop (make sure you select "1080p" quality at the bottom right).

Have you had any problems playing video files like .avi, .mpg, .mkv etc. played though a video playing application (like VLC).
