Hey Guys,

Was in the car today as a Passenger (As I am to young to drive), and I put the window down.. and I heard a strange tapping noise which was coming from the rear right wheel. We pulled over and I had a butcher's to see if there was pin or anything stuck in the wheel and there wasn't.

I gave the wheel a little shake and it gave a click back, now I wondering could it be a loose wheel or are the bearing's going? Or could it be something completely different?

Bearing creates a droning noise. If its clicking its bound to be something in the tread. You'd have to remove the wheel completely to check and be sure though.

To check the wheel bearing, jack that corner up so the wheel is off the floor, grip the wheel at 12 and 6 o'clock and 'wiggle' it pulling the top towards and the bottom away from you and vice versa. If you can wiggle it, the bearing needs tightening/replacing.

Whats the chances of chippimg a ball bearing?

I know on my inline blades when i had ball bearingschip they made a clicking noise all the time

A chipped bearing usualy makes a rumbling noise rather than a tapping or clicking.

Jack the corner of the car up and spin the wheel, if you still get the tapping noise it's most likely nothing to do with the tyre, in which case you need to take a closer look at the brake disk/drum and hub assembly.

If it doesn't make the tapping noise with the wheel jacked up, one thing to check is for tread coming away from the carcass of the tyre. It's unlikely if you have decent tyres but worth a look.
