Weird x1900XT problem

For some reason just recently in games that my card every 2 minutes just goes all laggy, like an fps slowdown for a few seconds but fps meters don't drop, then it will be alright.

Ive reinstalled windows twice tonight thinking i may of installed drivers incorrectly, but still happens.

Im also wondering it could be my sound card (x-fi), i had problems not getting sound when booting into windows tried reinstalling drivers but wouldnt work, so i swopped it into another slot and then i could install the drivers fine.

Ideas?

Edit: Would it work if i swopped x-fi back into other slot without reinstalling drivers?

I just read this from microsoft saying game performance may suffer, make sure you turn on 'minimal power management' in power options, it was set to 'always on' and it works perfectly now, no lag!

I remember having this problem before and this fixing it, just forgot all about it

Im happy now, after swopping components in and out reinstalling drivers etc
