done my 1st overclock last night with my duel core conroe.

went from 2.4ghz to 3ghz and all thanks to yewen on msn last night.

he talked me through it on msn and all went very well.

temp's went from 17c to 20c.

now what do i do ?

do i stick with my duel core or go quad core ?

any advice would be welcome and helpfull.

You want to upgrade just because you've clocked it to 3ghz?

If you've got money to burn then sure, why not? But a 3ghz conroe (e21xx?) isn't a bad piece of kit, and unless you're folding, there aren't a lot of applications or games that will need more oomph right now.

If you just fancy the challenge though, then go for it.

i dont want to buy another chip because ive over clocked my current chip.

i just wondering if the extra 2 core's would make a difference in every day running of game's.

I wouldn't have said a huge difference, although there are a couple of games that could use the performance boost (Warhead for example)

You could sell your current cpu to claim some money back, and i think you can pick up 2nd hand Q6600's for around £100 now? So you're looking at like a £60 investment moving to quad. Tbh, that's not so bad... so sure, go for it! ;)

For what it's worth i have a e2140 clocked to 3ghz and i get nice performance from most modern games set to max detail with AA ramped up.

thanks for the reply.

i have put my cpu in the price check on the mm to see how much it goes for.

as you said about selling mine and getting a quad, that is what im after really, just sold a few bit's and wanted to go quad for future game's.

and the sig is updated now.

Good work and nice one Yewen for helping him!

Though just as good advice here and the amount of people on it would have nearly been real time too :D
