Well done OCUK!

I can't fathom anyone would pay almost 3080Ti price for a 3070. They must have been really desperate.

You're assuming everybody is an enthusiast. A lot of people dont have a clue. I know of somebody who paid over £500 for a Radeon RX 570 for her son. She's not a gamer or anything and has absoultely no clue - thought it was normal price.

It would be the same as me seeing a washing machine for £500. I would have absoutely no idea if that was cheap or overpriced for that particular model. A washine machine enthusiast may laugh his head off and say I must be desperate to pay that price. Yet I wouldn't have a clue.

This is the problem. Unsuspecting and nieve people are being ripped off. Yet they dont even know about it. It's the perfect crime :(

Anyone with 2 brain cells can use Google to figure out what something cost at launch or retailed for.

Literally rx570 rrp tells me prices started at £165. I found that out within 10 seconds of googling.

If she can't be bothered spending 5 minutes doing some research for a £500+ purchase then they deserve to be robbed IMO.

Also why anyone would buy a £500 GPU second hand with no warranty is also baffling. That goes for any electrical item tbh including washing machines. You can literally Google reviews of any product and it will usually tell you how much it retailed for at the time of the review too.

These people aren't unsuspecting at all. Literally morons buy stuff off eBay. I just sold a 5 year old Dyson fan for £100 more than I paid for it new out of Argos 5 years ago. That means I used the fan for 5 years and sold it on at a profit. All because some bint wanted a Dyson fan. I then googled the model and I couldn't believe Dyson had raised prices from when I bought it by double. I thought it was overpriced tat after I bought it and luckily I had used vouchers I was gifted through work to get it for less than £200 and now today it retails for £500. Who are these people paying that for the world's worst fan? £330 it sold for. Bare in mind it's 5 years old, no warranty and if it dies after a few months she's out of £330 and it was RRP £249 5 years ago.

It's why I love eBay. I'm constantly upgrading or selling stuff on for what it costs new, sometimes at a small loss and other times for a profit and then I get to buy new with warranty and it cost me nothing.

I've literally bought a phone used it for 18 months then sold it on for a profit on eBay. It's a seller's dream. Gumtree on the other hand you could put a solid 1kg 24 carat gold brick up for sale for £1 and the best offer you would get is 50p and then when they turn up they will ask best price and offer 20p for something worth £50k.

It's why all stuff that's easy to post gets ebayed. If I feel like giving something away then I'll use gumtree.

I get more on gumtree than most people offer on the MM on here so...

No, not even close, about 100k in the town I live in, but I've had people drive 30mins-1hr to collect stuff

I've had people drive longer than that for ps5's. Stuff that is in demand.

But if I'm selling something like a TV. I usually only buy top end sets. I still get rock bottom prices for them. I live in a major city as well.

It has its benefits I got a £800 soundbar for £200. It was only 2 months old as well. So bargains to be had. I recently bagged something worth £550 for £100 and it's a month old. I made a cheeky offer and the person accepted it a week later, means nobody else had showed any interest.

or its stolen, maybe

Yeah I'm sure the 50 year old woman I bought it off is a master thief.

Or the 60 year old pensioner who wasn't happy with the soundbar due to his lack of hearing is regularly breaking into places and stealing high end electronics.

That's the good thing about gumtree you know where the item is (location) and you can tell by the area if it's going to be dodgy and Comms are an insight too into the person.

I used to hoard gear. Then I realised I was literally setting fire to money. If I'm not using something it gets sold. Or if I find a better replacement it gets sold and I buy the replacement using the funds.

As an example I a few months back sold a dyson fan for well over £300 on ebay. It cost me less than £250 new. I had also used it for 5 years. So I actually sold it for a profit after using it for 5 years. I have replaced that single fan with 5 Boneco fans which not only move more air, are much quieter too (much better fans in multiple magnitudes of order) and I still have cash left in my pocket.

Also it's extremely wasteful. Sell it on and let someone else enjoy it and stop creating so much unnecessary waste, etc. I'd much rather sell stuff on second hand and let someone else enjoy them. It's a win win for both parties. I get paid and they get something they want. The only thing I'm currently hoarding is a 1TB nvme ssd and 16GB of RAM. But I potentially need both for my unraid server as it looks like it's struggling with what it has currently available. It's the only reason why I have kept both as I originally did have the RAM on ebay but cancelled the auction when I noticed ram usage hitting 100% and the cpu spiking like mad.
Totally agree with you. I've always thrown previous stuff in the attic just in case something goes wrong with my new purchase....plus I'd never sold anything on ebay before & never knew how easy it was..right down to being given postage dimensions/costs. Like you said..win win. ;)
