Been looking around on these forums for a good 22" monitor to do some gaming and web browsing on, but I'm getting a different opinion at each thread I look at!

Basically I want to spend about £130 on a replacement monitor for my 6 year old 17" Viewsonic. I'd like a full HD 22" monitor to replace it.

Now some monitors, such as the LG E2240T, are LED backlits, though this doesn't guarantee a better image, and then there are some older LCD monitors that are meant to be good.

I'm basically looking for the best image quality that I can get in my price range, can anyone give a definitive answer?

If you can stretch a bit and you could use something bigger (24") and you don't need HDMI, you can get a Samsung B2430L for £160, maybe less if you shop around (although I wouldn't). I just got one (thanks mainly to PCM2's knowledgeable advice) from here and I'm quite impressed. As far as I know, it's the same as the B2230H, but 2" bigger and without HDMI.

Crappy stand, though. It doesn't quite wobble as I type, but anything more than that and it will do. I'm going to find a way to mount it securely on my old monitor arm, which I need to do to get the height right anyway. The viewing angle is, as expected, abysmal. They claim 160 degrees, but it's more like 16 degrees if you want to see the image properly. Which is par for the course with TN panels, but still irritating.

Picture quality is very good for the price, though, and all I've done is reduce the brightness by half. It came preset to "Aaarrggh, where are my sunglasses?" brightness.

The question is: Is 2 inches worth £30 to you? :)

I'm also impressed with the service. I ordered it at ~08:30, it was despatched ~10:00 and delivered for free at 08:50 the next day.

Thanks for the advice! :) The monitor is for my PC in my bedroom, so I wasn't really looking for anything bigger than 22", and even 22" in my room is going to be quite big! I'm looking at the B2230H as my first choice, would this definitely be the best for my money? (Sorry, I just want to get the monitor right!)

I think the panel is similar to the VX2250WM. I could be wrong - I haven't used the VA2231 myself. If it is similar then it's a storming monitor for the price. It is popular over in the States (where it is a mere $149) and if it's as good as the VX2250WM it's a damn shame more people don't know about it over here.

Narrowed down my choices, and need a final piece of advice (I promise it will be FINAL! :P) on my choices.

BenQ G2222HDL 21.5" LED for £100

Viewsonic VA2231W-LED for £121

What would be your choice? Is the Viewsonic worth the extra £21??

Again I'll mainly be doing web browsing and a little bit of gaming!

Not really, that BenQ is hard to beat at that price and it won't stay like that for long, grab it now while you can :D

As I understand it the BenQ has more vibrant colours and the ViewSonic more 'natural' and perhaps accurate colours. This assessment is based on similar models.

Thanks for the advice, decided to go with the BenQ, hopefully I'll be happy with it and I can put the money saved towards a Blu-Ray drive or some games! :D

I've sent BenQ a Email to try and find out when the new 22" LED VW2220H with the VA panel will be availble as it was supposed to be out at the start of Nov as i'm stuck between the G2222HDL and VA2231W-LED myself.

Let me know what they say. BenQ seems to be having trouble getting full retail supplies of the XL2410T and EW2420 as well and they've put back official full-scale release to Jan.

If you click on my signature link to go on the website and mention PCM2 or the Overclockers forums with your message I will have the message forwarded to me. Alternatively you can click on the 'trust' button to send me a confidential email message. :)

Was sent out today using DPD Next Day, there won't be anyone in the house tomorrow, and I don't know where my DPD depot is, is there any chance that they might leave the parcel with a neighbour?

I thought DPD gave you a 1 hour delivery window and if that didn't suit you could tell them in advance to deliver some other time (or more specifically, day). Login to their website using the tracking code you have.
