Sounds like the sort of thing mines making.. it just started to happen in games, like a electrical buzz! is this common.. really annoying

Unfortunately capacitor whine is quite common among gtx 600 series cards and AMD 7000 series cards . Mine only does it when inbetween loading screens and sometimes during benchmarks. Although i think mine has more to do with the fact that i've overclocked the nuts off it haha

hahaha... ASIC quality has nothing to do with coil whine
yes it is quite common, RMAing the card is often the only non-warranty-voiding method of fixing it

And even then it's not guaranteed you'll get one that doesn't whine

Guys i'm not talking about the coil whine, i get that now and then, not often. it's something else?
Run a game, Bf3 or something, and listen to the card. you know that sound a t.v makes when u listen behind it, it's that sound, and you really can hear it.
Only happend when games are up and running!

Part from that it's good card.

Me again I take it the drivers/CCC I have installed for my hd 6970 do I just use them for this card and it auto detects?
Or are there versions that are more stable for the 7970?

What drivers you using? i'm on the 12.6. i just find these stable on my w7970.
Each to there own when it comes to driver.
When i play BF3, i have these setting below in CCC, but unlick AMD Optimized, then turn the slider level down to off! i find leaving it ticked messing with the smoothness of the game for me. also on Anti-Aliasing-mode, if this is set to Quality, (Super-sampling AA) it kills the game for me.
In game i use everything maxed, inc v-sync on.

This setting just works best for me while just playing BF3.
When i play rfactor f1 mod, i have everything turned up!.
Each games different of course

All you get in box is card, driver disc and two molex to power cables six pin and eight pin no dvi adapters. I'm using cat 12.3 at moment and i did remove all amd drivers etc before installing and i had a 5870 before. Thought it would be better to do this. Also using msi afterburner and have unlocked sliders to 1200 core and 1600 memory also voltage unlocked to.

I started with older drivers because the new ones from 12.6 onwards i think are missing two important files that allow afterburner to unlock voltage and extended limits for core and memory. I guess because older custom cooled cards are just as quick as the new ghz edition coming out once o/ced.
