ram i dont know but want 2gig.
last but not least psu.
all suggestions much appreciated.
i will be overclocking with your help and want to play all current games.
NO BUDGET.

This is what I'd get in your position:
asdfasdfdw6.gif

It's the best PSU for the job, excellent RAM that more than fast enough, the cheapest GTX since they're pretty much alike and OCing can make up the difference, and the most popular Q6600 OC'ing board right now.

What made you decide you wanted a Gigabyte board? If you wanted to spend more for more capability I'd say get the IP35-Pro or even the Asus P5K Deluxe, my mobo of choice.

Billy's spec is good, although personally I'd rather have the P35C-DS3R and some 6400 Ballistix which will come to the same amount.

tbh gigabyte atm any of the p35 ones, abit seem to be havign a lot of failures and ive had 6 asus p35 boards and my gigabyte seems to be a lot better, its all down for what u want on board tbh

get vista 64 or it cant see 4gb of ram

well recived the goods today and to my supprise a capacitor off the gfx card has come off before i got it out off the bag.
what a bummer.

Just started the process of purchasing the bits to start my rebuild. Have gone for the Thermaltake 1200w psu and the EVGA 680 SLi mainboard. Plan to purchase the same cpu as you but will be going for the BFG 8800GTX OC2 768mb card and possibly 2x2GB Corsair 6400 memory. There are so many mainboards out there so I would love to know what makes people come up with their recommendations? I have been blinded by the different numbers to be honest and plumped for the EVGA as it has had a good reputation. Have I made a bad choice or is it as good as any other? Got it for £140 inc VAT.

-BA-, how much are you looking to spend? I'll cook up a spec for you as it seems you could use a hand. A 1200 W PSU seems, at first glance, to be massive overkill for a single socket, single GPU machine.

Did they solve the problems with the ip-35?

i remember a while back loads of people were having trouble with them.

Hi Billy

I only plan for it to be single GPU for a short while (month or two at most). I like the idea of the BFG's cos of the lifetime warranty and they seem to have excellent reviews. Always liked Corsair memory but am open to suggestions. Definitely want a quad core cpu so my only uncertainty was the mainboard really. The EVGAs seem to be really popular but right after I hit the purchase button last night I found a few negative reviews which has got me worried a bit. Was the 680i chipset the right one to opt for? I am not a massive overclocker but I do want to play games in high res (see monitor in sig).

Ta for advice

680 is the best SLi motherboard, but SLi motherboa4rds are a generation behind Crossfire ones (not that it matters much). Personally I'd get the OCZ PC2-5300 kit since it's £cheaper and should perform just about the same with a Q6600. I think you might be surprised at the power of the GTX. It should be able to run every game out at max settings on your monitor.
