my xbox has recently done this to a disk

and im getting lines similar to this on the screen



and unfortunately for me my extended warranty ran out 2 days ago :(

has anyone else had this problem?

email microsoft asking if they'll take abck one for the overheating problem. If they do, towel trick the machine and make it break. Send it back for a replacement system.

I'm sure you can fight for a X-clamp fault still.
 
Yes im in luck !!! i had the 3 rings of death a while back and the store i bought it from replaced it no problem, fortunately for me they also added a year onto the warranty ive just found the recent paperwork expires 22/06/2009 ^^
 
they do have a disk replacement scheme for some games
also so do most publishers
if its an old game though be as well just getting a 2nd hand one
 
That disk damage is insane.

What is inside the DVD mechanism thats sharp enough to eat away at a disk like that?!

Erm.... I am 99% certain it is the laser that does the damage. It's a relatively well known, common, documented issue on the 360.

I have seen the same thing with a PS2 and other consoles (although those were moved whilst the disc was spinning, so was never gonna end well).
