Kinda agree with what you are saying. All I want is Sky One back. I don't give two hoots about watching series 2 of desperate housewives.

EDIT: But your post is incorrect. They are standing up to Sky.

Not me. Seriously, what am I missing out on? Lost? 24? Big deal, I watch 24 elsewhere anyway. Plus, I prefer having stuff like that on DVD to watch when I want, not when the shedule says so, without adverts too.

Hmm what else, The Simpsons? They're on Channel 4 every week night if I fancy watching some 5 year old episodes. Futurama, a good show but I've watched pretty much every episode anyway. The rest can be watched elsewhere if I ever fancied it.

Sky Sports News? Wow, big deal. If I want Sports News I'll just read the Sports section of BBC News.. plenty there.

It's a loss sure, but not significant enough for me to jump to Sky. Virgin's cheaper, fast reliable broadband (I've heard a lot of horror stories about Sky broadband) and their TV service has some real potential, far more than Sky seems to have anyway.

virgin on demand suits me down to the ground

i tend not to watch TV at set times, and generally watch a bit if i cant sleep, so late at night etc. this means being able to pick something i want to watch from a big list is ideal.

I just got rid of my V+ box and went with Freeview. VoD is all well and good but I won't pay a large monthly fee for repeats "on demand" even if they are in HD.

As for Sky broadband it seems to have just as many people complaining about its service as VM have.

Should be interesting if VM go through with their threat of taking Sky to court at the end of this month.

Well enjoy Sky - one of the worst broadband suppliers I believe.

Alternatively:

Enjoy Sky TV - The BEST media supplier.

Get a decent ADSL/2+ connection from a company who doesn't suck at the internet ;)

Wouldn't have NTL/Virgin Media with a barge pole.

I'm aware there's two sides to the coin, but if true why haven't Sky let an independant expert value the situation?

Surely if they're in the right, they shouldn't have a problem having the issue analysed so they can proove they're right and tell Branson to shove off?

Virgin give me my telly and my house phone for free and i only pay for my 10meg BB which is going up to 20mb shortly. I spoke on the phone to them the other day and they gaurenteed my price/package for the next 12 months.
My connection is Rock solid and my pings are fantastic.
I am not going anywhere for the sake of a few yankee crap shows. BB is all that counts to me.
The bonus is that a solid Brit like Dickie B is running it.

Why should they? Who's to say the independent evaluator would be correct? It would involve Sky releasing a large amount of confidential data to the independent valuator, something I bet they are not keen on doing. ATEOTD, Sky have said "here's our product, either buy it or not". VM chose not to.

I joined Virgin after all this happened.

I couldn't give two hoots about the Sky One channel, and the other few, that have disappeared.

All I want is cheap, reliable services - and that is what I am getting:
- 4mb broadband, unlimited downloads 24/7
- Virgin tv (Large package)
- Phone line with caller ID and anonymous caller reject.

All for just under £33 a month.

Has anyone noticed Virgin media seem to be doing a big advetising campaign? I was in the local Currys yesterday and you couldn't walk a few feet without seeing the posters, leaflets etc. This is despite the fact that there's no cable coverage for about 30 miles. What's the point in that?

ADSL broadband, perhaps?

Never had you down as a Big Brother fan Malc :p

I moved to Virginmedia when it changed from NTL. Not had any problems at all here. The On Demand stuff is what I would watch most of anyway. So there channel line up is right up my street. I don't want to pay for overpriced carp like Sky 1, 2 & 3 that is just really a re-hash of repeats. So much for Sky offering extra choice.

It's been nearly a month without Lost & 24, the only two programmes I watched on SKY. I Can say my quality of life hasn't changed one bit. Lost is the biggest **** tease on telly. 3 seasons in and you still don't know the what and the why. 24 is becoming more like a pantomime as each season rumbles on.

I have had their Broadband twice and it's been nothing short of outstanding. Good pings and always a constant connection at 10mbps.

Ultimately it comes down to choice but when you scratch the surface of Sky there isn't a lot of substance. When the current seasons of 24 & Lost finish they don't have that much to make them different to Virginmedia

To be honest I couldn't careless about Sky1+2/News

Sky one all I watch is Simpsons which i've seen anyways and Sky2 I'd watch Futurama again got the DVDs.

I'd NEVER goto ADSL over cable if I had the choice - Roll on 20MB cable.

sky broadband is AWFUL most the services that go through 50 yr old phonelines are bad but coupled with pee poor customer service sky really excel at been awful :(
