I have a pair of these for my NAS - I can't see why they wouldn't work fine in a regular PC but I'd imagine there are cheaper options if you don't need the (alleged) added NAS-specific features!?!?

+1. Same here.

In my main rig I use a 256gb Crucial M4 for os/apps/games and a green drive for media/documents/photo storage.

with access time of 22ms+ id be weary of using it as a gaming drive, better off with a wd green or the segate variants.which have access time in the 15ms region

I remember the 3gb variant being tested and overall they were quicker than a Seagate 7200 model, I'll try and find the review but since reading that I've been inching closer to getting a couple of 3tb drives.
