Hi all,

I have a Western Digital WD TV player.
Currently its connected through my panasonic TV via a HDMI. Its also linked to my seagate 500gb drive.
My problem is some of the high def films I have which are .mkv files will play a great picture but won't play sound.
When I go into the options it comes up with (English digital 1) but there is no sound. Very frustrating.
Weirdly they all play perfectly through my PC.
I've updated the firmware to the latest:

Current Firmware – 1.03.01 (11/2009)

& tried to contact Western digital on 2 occasions with no feedback

Any help would be top

PS Apologies if this is in the wrong place too

This box has both optical and HDMI audio outputs - which one is yours set to ?

If it the WD HD version , it wont output DTS sound unless its through an amplifier , DTS MKV file need to be converted to AC3 audio , easily done , however the new wd hd live media player supports DTS , Mine is set up via hdmi , and i have optical cable running from my DVD surround sound system to my media box and it plays all audio files.

My advise to you is take it back and get the acer revo lots lots better than what your using. If you get the acer no more converting dts sound and you will see a real picture improvment over the Wdtv which i have had twice.

Use a program called GOTSent that will encode within very short time your MKV DTS to a standard AC3 Media File :) WDTV loves them :)

You my friend..... are a hero :D

Downloaded the GOTSent 0.23 (last stable version) & it works a treat.

Picture is still excellent & sound top

Thank you very much

Only down side it takes 30mins-60mins depending on file size.......... but that's a small price to pay

Again... top advice amigo

WDTV DOES NOT decode DTS audio.
The new WDTV LIVE player which I have does indeed decode it so no need to convert any videos

I'm so happy for you.........

For of us who've already splashed out on the original WDTV its little consolation.... so GOTSent is the daddy for us

Kind thanks again, please consider this thread closed
