US: Westworld

The only credible reason for them not turning Maeve in now is the fear that they'll get in worse trouble for not doing it sooner, but that's not really coming across.

Should've dialled down her bulk apperception when given the chance, and informed their superior in regard to wider malfunctions being investigated by QA in the park. But no, tech 1 wanted to learn how to code; tech 2 wanted to keep his own brothel on the side. Sigh. Creative writing my hindquarters! They had control of her entire sweep of attributes, for crying out loud! No murder or even lobotomy was needed. Deus ex machina they have with Arnold's hidden code is silly (I understand that they figured that Maeve would eventually be able to iterate her way back and override her protocols again -- but really?); an extension of the early AI researchers' belief that if you throw enough spaghetti together you get consciousness and self-awareness.

Sigh was hoping this would have some consistancy and overall good, will watch it all in one go I think.

Is it worth watching westwold and futureworld the film or can one just watch the series?

You don't need the movies to jump in. Futureworld was cack, and although the old series (Beyond Westworld) sort of had the same hook as the new, the lot was basically rewritten. It's more a total reboot than a continuity.

Good episode full of violent delights and violent ends awaits. It's worth the wait but hey - no gloating and no spoilers until the evening.

Episode 9 was rather underwhelming.
I already guessed that Bernard was based on Arnold as soon as it was confirmed he was a host, and I already assumed that Dolores shot him since she was the oldest host and she mentioned something about them not exactly being friends. Also there's the flashback of her shooting herself, so I assume it was at that time.

It seemed like they were supposed to be big reveals too, so huge letdown for me. I don't read reddit or any articles about the show on purpose so I don't get anything spoiled!

was a odd episode as someone already put i hope it doesnt get too clever for itself.

some stuff is stupid some is well thought out.just hope it doesnt go full under the dome :D

Paying close attention to the ages of Ford shows the following timelines. Pre events of the original film, post event, interim when Bernard is created then present day and possibly a few years before. Dolores' memories also more clearly tie into this from episode 9 and possibly add to the timelines so the question is who's eyes is she actually seeing through in some of them?

Re watching parts of previous episodes after 9 also gives some interesting insights.

Bernard Lowe = Arnold Weber

Kinda obvious really, bit like Torchwood = Doctor Who

I figured it would be an anagram given that berNARD has a lot of common letters with ARNolD but I wasn't sure whether we knew either of their surnames or whether I just couldn't remember them.

Good episode. The timeline theories were sort of right, though with a lot of it being memories it's not as clear cut as saying that we've been seeing lots of different timelines. All we know for sure is that Dolores has been remembering conversations she's had with Arnold, everything else could still be in the one timeline, or at least daydreaming around memories of him.

Good reveal regarding who the man in black is. I liked the incongruity of seeing the girl's modern shoe in the scene and then it opening out to see who it belonged to.

They didn't reveal who he was, although they did reveal more about him than they've done in the past 8 episodes.

Now I'll admit next week it looks a reasonable bet the timeline theory will be made canon and he will be revealed to be William but there's the still the potential for something to happen out of leftfield with his identity and leave us with a single timeline where the only bumps from linearity are Delores' and now Bernard's flashbacks. His appearances with Delores' in the first couple of episodes still don't mesh with him being William for me.

Did I miss how Delores' stab wound healed between her escaping the Confederados and going to the church? Different timeline?

As soon as she ran out of sight she was into her memories. Not a different timeline as such, more like walking through her memories, like when Bernard was in his memory with his son and could manipulate what happened.

The treatment of memories is a bit reminiscent of the film Solaris, if you've seen that.
