Didn't want to derail the McD's thread any further.

@aVdub

I've never been to that one in Fakenham, despite we spend a fair amount of time in this part of the country, it's only looking at the app replying to that other thread last night I seen it, as that's the closest one.

Now I know it's there, I'm going to give it a visit at some point this week, so I'll let you know if it's any good.

My "local" is the George Hotel in Whittlesey, although we have to drive there as we don't live in town, it's not a bad one actually.

I also go to the New Crown in Southgate in North London quite a bit, although that one is a **** hole really.

I been to loads of them though all over the country.

The best one I ever been to and it was recent was The Picture Playhouse in Bexhill on the south coast, sort of set over three floors, it had a roof terrace you could sit out on, but it used to be and old theatre and just interesting building. They also had food items on the menu most others don't, and we were drinking one of the local IPAs and it was bloody gorgeous.

Edit: I'm making a list!

The George Hotel, Whittlesey, Cambs
The College Arms, Peterborough
The Drapers Arms, Peterborough
Sandford House, Huntingdon, Cambs
The Swan & Angel, St. Ives, Cambs
The Regal, Cambridge
The Peter Cushing, Whitstable, Kent
The John Logie Baird, Hastings, Kent
The Picture Playhouse, Bexhill, Kent
The Moon & Stars, Penge, South London
The Ice Wharf, Camden, London
The Railway Bell, East Barnet, North London
The Old Manor, Bracknell, Berkshire
The Hope Tap, Reading
The Red Lion, Gatwick Airport
The New Crown, Southgate, North London
The Mossey Well, Muswell Hill, North London
Spouters Corner, Wood Green, North London
The Dukes Head, Leominster, Hereford
The Moon Under Water, Watford, Herts
Lloyds No 1. Bar, Nottingham
The Montague Pike, Charing Cross, London
The Great Glen, Fort William, Scotland
The Central Bar, Shepherds Bush, London
The Postern Gate, York
The Limes, Fakenham, Norfolk
....One of the two in Carlisle but I can't remember which as they are right next to each other.

Closed down:

The Moon Under Water, High Barnet, North London
The Talley Ho, North Finchley, North London
The Heart & Spool, Borehamwood, Herts

Edit (new ones):

The Ritz, Lincoln

Harrogate Spoons is the best in the county I reckon! Everything’s a bit classier round there!

Apparently that is supposed to be the best one, I read some review thing once that ranked them, I'm pretty sure that one was top, it's got like a big curved roof thing right?

I will go one day.

Hmmm.

Food you can say what you want, I don't mind it personally it's cheap and cheerful, but yes far from fine dining, I don't think anyone can argue that.

However Spoons has great beer, outside of specialist places, Spoons beer is better than about 95% of any pubs I've been to, most will do local breweries, for example my local often has Oakham Ales ones, their Citra for example is really nice.

That one in Bexhill I was drinking cans of whatever local IPA it was and it was bloody gorgeous.

Plus it's cheap.

Most pubs want £6 for a pint of mass produced Northampton canal water, if you are the type that thinks Birra Moretti is worth paying that for maybe Spoons isn't for you anyway.

I think, even now, you can occasionally get a passable pint for £2.

Yup I go reasonably often on a Monday night just for one, the guest ales are even cheaper on Monday because it's Monday club.

Some of them are really good beers and I think on a Monday are about £2 a pint, or not far off.

It's not my cup of tea, but some bloke drinks Worthingtons and gets change from a fiver for 3 pints.

@SexyGreyFox

I listed all the ones I been to on the original post.

I'm waaaaaaaay short of 200!

It's possible I been to a few others others over the years but I'm confident on the ones listed.

Edit: The app has a thing where you can mark off all the ones you been to... I mean, of course it does!

Went to The Limes in Fakenham.

Not bad at all, it's quite different to most I've been to, quite light and airy, quite modern. It has big windows out the front and back, plus a large skylight over one side so tons of natural light.

It was a beautiful day today and they have a beer garden out and back with big bi folding doors which they had open and we were sat just inside it was lovely with the air flowing through.

There were two guest ales on tap so I ordered a half pint of each to try them via the app, and the guy turned up with 2 full pints, oh well lol... Checked the app, yup they'd ****** up so I got those pints for £1 each, result!

We all had food and it was reasonable.

We were there about 5pm to 8pm, on a Friday night as well and it was mostly families.

I had those 2 guest ale pints, 660ml bottle of Brewdog Hazy Jane which I got with the food, and 3 double bells and pepsi max cherry (try it before you pass judgement) which were £2.50 each, so, I spent £9.50 on booze excluding the one with the food which I guess is about a £4 bottle.

Mrs drove us back.

This ain't too bad for a couple of early ones before moving on.

Been to that one maybe 4 times, although I live nowhere near, I sometimes am in reading for work reasons.

I was officially the first person in one morning it was a wednesday morning I got there bang on half 8 and I asked the lady she confirmed I was the first.

Regrettably I didn't drink, I had breakfast and two pints of orange juice and lemonade.

The last time I was in there was on my own, it before a work event at the football stadium. I got there about midday and had several pretty high strength IPAs, you know the growler one and similar, I was reasonably lubricated by about 4pm, and yet somehow managed to navigate getting the bus to the stadium, good times.

Very bizarre.
Had a bizarre experiences in a Wetherspoons in Manchester some years back. One minute I'm having a quiet beer with a couple of mates, the next a load of guys wearing England shirts are stood up giving Nazi salutes and chanting "No Surrender to the IRA". As I recall we decided to move on sharpish.

Yeah thats never happened in any ive ever been in.

I guess though middle of a large city that could happen anywhere, I mean never say never, but in the few different Wetherspoons I go to, I would say something like that would be unlikely.

Had the Spoons roast turkey dinner today, £13 with a beer.

Turkey, mash, 2 stuffing balls, pigs in blankets and peas and some kind of parsnip I think.

Mash was pretty dire, rest wasn't too bad to be fair.

Was in the one in St. Ives (cambs) yesterday, and I hate to say it but looks like they have made quite a few changes to the food menu and not for the better.

Looks like they removed everything in the grill section, so steak, gammon, mixed grill etc.

Also removed the half grilled chicken from the chicken section, that was my favourite thing they did.

Seems they are moving away from some of the more fresh things they had on there, cost cutting like everything else I guess. It's a little disappointing.

I don't know if it's just that one or all of them, I'm guessing all of them.

Yeah it's a shame, I wouldnt have even minded if they had put the prices of those things up a bit.

My go to was the half grilled chicken, you could get that with a medditeranian salad, and it was a pretty nice meal. I think last time the Mrs had a few small plates, and the Halloumi cheese also comes with a little salad, so I put that all on the plate, honestly for spoons I think that was a reasonably healthy meal with plenty of fresh stuff.

But the steak was never that bad (even for spoons) I never had one that was awful, and you could customise that with salad etc so avoiding just a complete "brown food" meal. The gammon wasn't bad either and the mixed grill you could sometimes get on the manager special for about £9.

Now with those gone, I dunno, my fallbacks are I guess the Chicken Jalfrezi, their Pizza's are not bad.... The new burgers are better, but again, with onoin rings and chips its a lot of brown food. I don't mind an all day breakfast actually.

The thing I had yesterday was new, Steak and ale pudding, I had it with mash and peas, the thing cost about £7 with a beer which I got a Brewdog Hazy Jane (large 660ml bottle) the beer on its own is £4.89 so that doesn't leave much out of that for the food.

It wasn't the best if I am honest, pie was a little small although otherwise ok, and the mash is that fake stuff, but I guess you cannot complain for the money.

I dunno though...... they took all the best stuff off in my opinion.

Oh noes!

Just reading the above.... are there still chicken wings on the menu?

Really liked their wings haha

Wish they would open one up here near ponteland who do I petition haha

Yup, on the small plates section, although I think its 10 wings, so it isn't that small lol.

They are doing 3 small plates for £10 on a Monday and I'm usually in on Monday night for 1 pint and dinner so took advantage of that yesterday.

Ended up with a massive plate of food for £10, which includes said wings, to be honest, I'll go for something smaller next time.

Went into the one in Stamford today for the first time ever, I don't actually live that far from Stamford at all, about 30 minutes drive but other than going through it on my motorcycle a few times I've never really looked around and what a nice place.

The Spoons was average I suppose, not meaning in a bad way, was just... average for Spoons.

Definitely go back and have a wonder around again at some point though.
