We've All Been Duped by LED LCD's Input Lag vs OLED for Gaming - Here's the Truth [PROMOTED]

A very interesting watch, it really does make me want on OLED monitor more and more. The only thing stopping me right now is size.

Agree. 48" bit too huge for regular desk, I recall once having a TV that was 37", I think that would be a better desktop size. I suppose people been buying largest available for so long the manufacturers don't make as many small sizes these days.

I been saying this for the last 5/6 years now :p

Much prefer playing games on my 60HZ oled over my 144HZ IPS any day of the week, obviously superior image but the motion clarity is far superior because of the pixel transition/response as shown by Vince here.

Praying for a 21.9 34" 1440 144hz free/g sync oled for <£1k

Interesting video. I wonder what the comparison would have been like against a (non-VA) gaming monitor, rather than a TV.
It's really a non issue for any decent high refresh rate monitor. This video is sponsored and like any other sponsored video it should not be taken seriously.

Love my OLED (LG B7) too, the colours, depth of the blacks and response time/motion clarity are totally things I've observed when using it versus LCD displays. The only thing that beats it out on motion clarity are my CRTs but they also have a bit of ghosting associated with the phosphor persistence. I imagine the latest OLEDs at 120Hz with BFI can't be far off CRT, and obviously the resolution, size, colours etc. blow any CRT out the water.

No, I don't have any burn in yet.

I think Vincent generally seems very professional and tries to be accurate and not biased, but of course basing a conclusion on one source of information is always risky. I'd have him calibrate my TV if I could spare the cash, though.

So really, it's taken 20 odd years for current display technology to reach a par with ancient CRT tech? Gamers really have been sold a complete lemon for years now.

Well, sort of. We've also got pixel-perfect, larger and much sharper screens to game on that don't take up the whole desk, so as with anything, it's a compromise. There were some other display technologies being worked on like SED that may have been better for gamers, but basically I think the overwhelming market demand for the lower footprint and ultimately cheaper LCD displays dictated what was available.

What I think has been overlooked, often by those who review and assess these devices for gaming (me included), is the impact on gaming for a lot of the properties of the display not typically on the spec sheet. Sites like RTINGS as well as HDTV test have started to get much more into this, but I think a lot of what makes a display 'feel good' for gaming is not easy to discern when making a purchase. So I welcome the video.

I would love to hear from those who have a recent OLED panel and are using that for gaming how they think it compares, especially if they've tried black frame insertion and high refresh rates. There's probably an LG CX/C1 thread for that somewhere...

My LG C1 using BFI is phenomenal. As close to a CRT that I have ever seen. Also the colour's, blacks and response time blows away my ultrawide 34" IPS. Yes it's big but after a few weeks you get used to it. Just like buying a new TV for the living room. You buy a 55" TV and it seems huge but a week later it's normal and you think maybe I should have got a bigger one.

Yup. I use my 65 C9 for some casual sofa gaming, running it at 1440p120 with a 1660 Super in a little ITX build, it's absolutely stunning though. Just dragging an explorer window around you can see how responsive it is, it's mind blowingly good.

its been a trade off.

yes CRT had advantages in some key areas but newer tech has enabled large energy efficient panels with better colors and brightness
