I recently bought myself a WG111v3, and whenever I play games the CPU usage on the accompanying software jumps to 10-15% on average, and sometimes even up to 20% average.

This of course affects performance of games as it's using a lot of my CPU. I noticed it was using at least 10% of my CPU when the computer is doing nothing, so I gave the process a restart and CPU usage is consistently down to 0-1%. Looks like it's a bug with the software.

Is there a way of not using the Netgear smart wizard in Windows 7?

Thanks

I had a simular problem with mine but I did not want to use the Netgear software either. As far as I know if you removed the Netgear software it also removes the device driver too which is a pain but in order for the dongle to work without the software and to make it work under the Windows Wireless utility you need the drivers .INF file for it to install & work. I attempted to try and find the seperate .INF driver file before with my WG111 but I could not find anything on google but in the end I just installed the Netgear software back on just for the device to work and then if I remember correctly, I set something in the Netgear software to manage the wireless through the windows utlility (as by default the netgear disabled the Windows Wireless Zero thing) and so the Netgear software needs to be changed so the Windows Zero program is set as the only and main program for the wireless.
