I didn't realise this was a thing. But it's quite funny. Apparently it's been running for a few years where people try to go as long as possible without hearing Wham's Last Christmas. But it seems a DJ at a football match took out several thousand people in one go by playing it.

Without even knowing I was playing the game, I am somehow still in it. Who else is still in?

I am still in....I went to Morocco for a week so that was easy but back at work and someone in the office is playing a playlist of Christmas song....I have my headphones in just to avoid it.

Edit - Someone in the office just said "I don't think Ray can listen to this song", and then they skipped it, before I realised what they were talking about as I had my headphones in!

Close shave

According to the rules, because the DJ did it on purpose then the 7k people are still in the game..

i.e. you can't be deliberately Wham'd

and yes i'm still in as I listen to absolute radio, and (as they run the game) they refuse to play it :)

"Whamageddon". Not heard of it before but it's a cool word! So if I play the track myself, I'm still "in"? I forgot what the track sounds like but I know it's a Christmas standard. Just can't remember what it sounds like until I play it then I'll know what it is.

Is the game played with any other Christmas tracks? Or played at any other time of the year? There is that age-old meme called "What Is Love" by Haddaway and I can imagine the game being played with that.

Yep, still in. Avoiding Wham seems easier this year, but avoiding Mariah... impossible.

Tell me about it!! East 17 had the Christmas no.1 slot with "Stay Another Day" which was the same year - 1994. I much preferred that to Mariah Christmas track, although I do like some of Mariah's other work such as "Fantasy". I just think her Christmas track is rather over-played, more so than any other Christmas track.

I think 99% of people "didn't realize this was a thing"

I suspect that is because it isn't a thing at all, it's just stupid idiots doing stupid crap for attention and to try and feel special because ....

"Hey, I avoided hearing Wham - Last Christmas" for 6 weeks"...

WHO CARES?!
