Some recommendations for a 1440p 144Hz 30” For around £400 please, I’m asking for a noob!

I been looking for over a month and getting no where.
For gaming and watching Blu-ray movies.

also what happens if my gpu can no longer put out 144fps or have enough power to display 1440p at decent settings would it be playable at lower than 144fps?

here’s a few I been looking at

Framerate lowers in any proper gaming monitor with FreeSync.
If monitor doesn't have FreeSync, then it's turd, which should be smashed to head of maker company's marketroids.

If you have normal room lightning, then IPS is better with consistent response times.
If you prefer darker room then VA is better.

If you get an IPS one you’re likely to have some IPS Glow when playing back dark scenes in Blu-Ray, you can see what I mean here at the beginning of this video clip on an IPS monitor.

That video isn't very usefull.
It should be taken viewing monitor from center also vertically. (besides who knows what monitor settings)
Or then TNs should be always imaged from below center angle...

Monitor is set to default settings, I just sat in my chair and began recording on my iPhone. Just pointed the camera at the screen and began recording in no particular fashion.

Haven't yet met LCD whose default settings would be sensible.
Brightness should be low, because that's what decides value of black and amount of backlight bleed.
Then contrast is for setting difference between black and white and hence should be highish, unless you want white to be grey.

I recommend the latest generation Samsung VA panels which you may be able to find on sale at your price range. They ain't cheap, but they're outstanding if you're using your computer in a dark environment.

I use my computer in a fairly dimly lit room, so I can't use IPS monitors because the glow is unbearable. I've tried three different high end ones over the last three months, so I'm speaking from experience. In the end, I found Samsung's newer VA panels provide the best experience for me. I have the G7 Odyssey now and the CHG70 on order, which is less aggressively curved. The picture quality of the G7 is staggeringly good, better than any of LG's nano-IPS monitors I had previously tried and approaching the quality of my professionally-calibrated Panasonic OLED TV. It does proper inky black and accurate colours, but it does come with an aggressively curved 1000R screen, which isn't to everyone's taste. That's why I'm going to try the CHG70 to see if I prefer it. Both support HDR 600 which is a nice bonus, Doom Eternal looks really nice in HDR mode. I use an RTX 3080 FE card to drive it.

You may see some users complaining on the Internet about flickering with the G7, but I haven't experienced any. I believe Samsung has issued a firmware update to resolve this issue anyway, if you do run into it. You may update the firmware yourself, no need to send the monitor to a service centre, which is useful (Dell, take note!).

I don’t want to commit to FreeSync or gsync. I have a 5700xt now but who knows my next gpu might be nvidia.

the room is softly lit and monitor will sit in front of a south facing window with a black out blind blocking around 90% of light.
Ips or va would be ok

Thanks I’ll have a look at Samsung

My CHG70 has been relegated to being a secondary display (primary is now an LG 27G850-B). In the right circumstances it can look pretty good but what lets it down is an absolutely horrific freesync implementation that no amount of firmware upgrades will fix (using version 1023 from Samsung Korea site). Check out this RTINGs review paying particular attention to the response time at 60Hz - the dark overshoot error is abysmal at 46.5%.

A good example of the issue on youtube:

I cannot recommend it as a gaming display as the overshoot below ~80Hz is very distracting. I think the problems have been fixed in the newer G7 models, and the RTINGs review appears to show that, but I must say it put me off buying another Samsung VA display unfortunately.
