Right, for years I've been making do with a 1280 x 1024 TFT monitor complete with a muckle CRT next to it. However, we've just done the house up so the CRT has to go!

I play a lot of online poker and hope to go full-time in the next year or so. More poker sites are allowing re-sizing of tables but traditionally you need a resolution of 1600x1200 to achieve 4 tables per monitor with no overlap and so I'd planned to get rid of my existing set up and replace it with two identical ~20" TFT monitors of that resolution. Unfortunately, the world seems to have gone bloody widescreen daft and now the vast majority of monitors in that range are 1680x1050. In other words they have excess space in the horizontal but less in the vertical. There is a far more limited market for 4:3 (1600x1200) monitors now than a few years ago.

For the poker players out there has anyone got pics of 4 full size tables on a 1680x1050 monitor so I can gauge the level of overlap. For everyone else can you recommend me 1600x1200 monitors please. I'd prefer to keep the money tight if I can so I have no issue buying last years models to save money as they will still be better than my 3 year old 19" Neovo TFT.

I'd prefer to spend less than £500 delivered to my door if I can :)

As nice as that monitor is it's resolution is only 1920x1600 meaning it would still only fit 4 poker tables before you'd have issues of overlapping. Poker tables are generally 800x600 pixels which is why you fit 4 perfectly into a 1600x1200 monitor. I'd only consider a single do it all monitor if it was 2400 wide by at least 1200 deep so that I could fit six tables on with no overlap.

try getting some s/h samsung 213ts?

response rate isnt the best but everything else is top notch, should get em cheap too

The 2407 is 1920x1200, i.e. the same vertical resolution as a 1600x1200 screen so anything that fits nicely on a 1600x1200 will fit on the 2047 with the addition of some extra space at the sides...

...EDIT but I see you wanted 2 x 1600x1200 :D

How about 2 x 2407s?

I realise that but I'd still need two of them to fit 6-8 poker tables with no overlap. As much as I'd like it to I just can't justify two beefy monitors like that.

Just to clarify I need two of the same monitors that will allow me to play up to 8 tables with no overlap. I therefore need two 1600x1200 TFT's or if such a thing exists I'd get by with one 2400x1200 monitor as that would fit 6 tables with no overlap (in fact, I'd probably prefer this solution)

I'm surprised no one has mentioned any of these:

Dell 2001FP
Dell 2007FP
Dell 3007WFP

no competitor price talk please

<snip>

I had always thought it would be one of the Dell's that I'd get.

2500x1600 eh :) Could be worth a gander? Any idea where the 2nd hand market in them is strong? Are those ok at a viewing range of around 2 feet? Where is the best price new?

Is there really so few 1600x1200 LCD's on the market :( A year ago there was loads!!!
Most people are moving to widescreen these days. The OcUK 20"+ LCD page has 22 widescreen monitors, and only ONE non-widescreen monitor (the Dell Ultrasharp 2007FP).

1920x1200 is becoming the new 1600x1200. It's the same height, but 320 pixels wider.

Likewise, 1680x1050 is the new 1280x1024.

LOL, and about 50p per extra width pixel more expensive :D Starting to think I should just bite the bullet and get the 30" mo-fo. A little more future proof and in 3 years when they are old hat I can pick up another for a dual 30" set up!!!
