What 20" TFT Widescreen?

Hi all,

Thinking about replaceing my ageing Mitsubishi 930sb 19" for a new TFT.

Slight problem is there are so many of them and so much info and so many different positives/negatives I really don't know what to go for.

It's going to be mainly for gaming as i've found it impossible to install my beloved power dvd 6 on my new setup so I don't watch any movies at all.

Can any gamers please advise whats good?

If you squint it goes into widescreen mode.
 
Davidstone, that was possibly the most unhelpful comment ever :/

Anyway, I am using a Dell 2007FWP and a Philips 20". There is a smallish thread on the dell at the moment, and I also wrote a review thread.

The philips is also a very good monitor.

The viewsonic 20" are highly regarded, and the NEC is possibly the best, but a bit to expensive, and is not so good in very lighted areas.

Basically:

Dell = Great input options, pretty decent response, great colour, and contrast. Little back light bleed.

Philips = Same as Dell other than a few less inputs.

NEC = Best overall monitor... a bit "bright" for some though, and a little expensive

Viewsonic = Very well liked.

The top 3 monitors also have the ability to map the image to different screen sizes, I.E original aspect, stretched, and fill.

DO you have a budget? Recommend this excellent tool from TFT Central to help you choose :D

Switched from that to Nero 6.6.1.4 which comes with Nero Showtime. Its also very good & has same if not more features like Power DVD 6, but like it, it comes with the DVD drivers/codec meaning I can use WMP, Media Center (prefer this because of remote-control), etc to watch DVDs ;)

THanks for the info guys. Budget is probably going to be £300 to £400. Quite tempted to go for the NEC as my current monitor is a NEC/Mitsubish 930sb and the quality is second to none.

As for the Power DVD its an odd problem which I have failed to sort out and I just don't understand how it surfaced. It started sometime this year for no reason and i've had 2 new motherboards, 2 gfx's, a new CPU,ram etc since. When I attempt to install either Power DVD 5 or 6 it gets to 92% complete and then gives me an Ikernel error, then a memery address error.

Installation files/cd might be damaged? But at least now your open to other 'suggestions' ;)
 
The viewsonic is good value atm on this week only but if the dell offer is still on that is the best value for money.

I'm very happy with my NEC though, well worth the money
 
Thanks for the info peeps. Been looking at some reviews and comments and narrowed my choices down to the NEC MultiSync 20WGX or Viewsonic VX2025. Looking at the price the Viewsonic is on 'this week only' @ about £115 cheaper and has had a brilliant review I think i'll be ordering it. :)

What Dell screen are you on about mate ?

The 2007 is on special offer at the dell website (Am I allowed to mention that?). I sed to have a VS2025 but I ended up sending it back. The NEC is by far the best 20" monitor out there IMO and worth the price difference FOR ME. Whether it's worth it or not is your call though. Bear in mind the gloosy screen has huge advantages but it the wrong environment you may end up with it on 100% brightness all the time (in direct sunlight).

Samsung 215 TW owner, totally delighted.

Why do i recommend?
Features over an all out "FPS performance" for me, its just an allround better display than most others currently available, see the specs yourself with HDCP support and a very high contrast/viewing angle and very good black level.
