Looking at getting one in the next few days, made short list of

XFX GTX 260 Black, 2300MHz GDDR3, GPU 666MHz, 216
and
EVGA GTX 260 SC, 2106MHz GDDR3, 55nm GPU 626MHz, 216

Seeing as both can be had at the same price and not much in it over normal stock cards, what would be the better option from the two? Ok one is 55nm and other 65nm but from what ive seen, not much in it between them and if anything the new 55nm runs at high temps with the added noise.

Anyone could recommend one and add some light onto picking one.

Also would Corsair hx520w PSU be fine looking after one of the top? had no problems with it running a hd4870

thanks :)

Well I'd choose the XFX GTX 260 Black, 2300MHz GDDR3, GPU 666MHz, 216

From what I can see there's nothing in it between the two for performance however -

you yourself said it 'higher temps and added noise' on the 55nm.

I have the 65nm and more than happy. :)

The XFX has the 280's bigger fan i believe, the new 55nm 260s far from being the anticipated promised land, seem to be more about cutting corners and saving nividia money

Considering the XFX has a better cooling system than a stock 260, which in itself is better than that found on the revised 260, is clocked higher (around 280 perf), i'd say at the same price there really is very little thinking to be done here

I have a 65nm 216 and i can tell you its very very cool running and quiet. Clocked to well past the maxcore clocks too and fan never need to spin up.

XFX Black, no question

I own an EVGA GTX260 SSC card and to be honest I'd recommend just getting a standard EVGA GTX 260 55nm and overclocking it to SC/SSC clocks. I don't think the SC and SSC is worth the extra and I wish I'd had gone for the standard card now.
There also seems to be quite a lot of failures with the factory overclocked cards. Mine is currently being RMA'd.

Looking at the reviews I don't think there is a huge difference between 65nm and 55nm. None of the reviews mention the 55nm cards being significantly noiser or hotter.

yea get stock and overclock it tbh. ive got my stock one stable well over any factory overclcoked ones ive seen, and i havnt stopped yet.

Got my XFX GTX260 Black Edition this morning, pretty good deal for £218, free copy of Farcry 2 with an included disc and a voucher for a free copy of Mirrors Edge via EA Download Manager. The EVGA has a better warranty, but I couldn't justify the extra £17 odd for a few Mhz and I'm more used to XFX as a make.

Just trying to work out how to get my free copy of 3DMark Vantage as per the sticker on the box.

I notice some people are saying just get the standard cards and overclock them, but for the sake of £10-20 extra for most of them surely its a pretty good deal for most people who wouldn't usually overclock their cards much.

I thought I should share my experience with you.

I had nothing but trouble with my XFX GTX 260 Black Edition and I will never buy another XFX product as a result.
There have been a number of other people having issues with this card - it seems they are not always stable at their default overclock.

I have had to replace my card last week because I got so fed up with the completely random nature of the problem - the whole pc locks up and the audio loops during games.

I went for the EVGA 55nm GTX260 SSC and I have to say that it is MUCH better than the XFX. It's clocked a little higher and that can only be a good thing!
Don't believe anyone who tells you that the 55nms are hotter and noisier - I have had both cards and I can tell you that they run at virtually the same temps and the new card makes no more noise than the original 260.

If it was me, I would buy the newest card possible.

I'm sure some people have had good experiences with the Black Edition but I have been in touch with quite a few others who have had lots of problems getting the cards returned due to the fact that the problem is so random.

I have the Evga 65nm 260 216 ssc edition its a great little card , runs cool and quiet! I would either get the cheapest card going or get EVGA or BFG just coz of the good warranty the cards have. I too had a bad experiance with XFX back in the 7800 days and they lost my custom for good.

Win. This card is better than the 280 imho (and BFG's opinion)
