what 37" screen to get?

Have a look at this:

Toshiba 37XV503DB

Not much info around but I've got one on order based on specs alone.

Can be had for £565 delivered using a voucher code, can't say where unfortunately.

How much are you planning to spend?

What ever model you decide, my e-mail is in trust and I'll tell you where to get them both :p

I looked at both these models, but went plasma in the end.

Plasma is the only choice here, much better than an LCD. Plus for the price you get a tv that produces an excellent picture for standard tv and movies, which LCDs do not. Popped into 'big department store' on Oxford street yesterday and the LCds in there, especially samsungs looked very bad with SD, but the worst was the sony X3000. It was sat next to the kuro and had the worst picture out of anything I saw (SD BBC1 footage), I kid you not.

Samsung, philips, toshiba, LG make very average tvs, with panasonic being in a differnt league.

No it isn't, lots of places sell LCD TVs

Never judge a HD screen on the quality of a shared SD signal in a "big department store"...or a small one for that matter.

Both types of TV are good in different areas.

Maybe that's the very reason it seemed worse than all the others.

Really, didn't know that :p

I spent months comparing tvs ina variety of stores, looking at SD, blu ray, and PS3 gaming on them all, so I saw an awfully good respresentation of how good most tvs are.

But if one tv in a store is running a crap signal then they all will be, so at least it is a representative source on them all. Sony X3000 looked horrific, even after i fiddled with *** settings a little, very very blocky. I was very surprised.

Yup, but unless you game solely and leave static images up all the time or use it as a PC monitor then plasma is the better choice. Better motion handling with no input lag, more realistic picture as well. Not as many are 1080p, but that isn't a concern at normal viewing distances if your sitting back on a sofa.

Well it is the flagship sony LCD, and looked absolutely horrific. And this LCD is one of the ones that looks pretty damn good for HD. The OP is also looking at using a tv for mainly gaming and movies. Like I said LCDs arn't that special compared to plasma for handling motion in movies, so definately recommend him a plasma.
