heya, gonna be ordering a 5700 on friday i hope and im just wondering what one i should go for?

i am edging towards something like this https://www.overclockers.co.uk/sapp...ddr6-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-38y-sp.html and it is on the high end for my budget.

i need a small one as i cannae be bothered moving about 5 hard drives and taking the hdd cage out my pc case.

this one looks ok pricewise but lower clocks https://www.overclockers.co.uk/msi-...ddr6-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-35r-ms.html

any suggestions guys? it is gonna be replacing a reference rx480 8gb, i think ill be getting about double the fps with a 5700?

Yup, about double the performance.

From what I've read, I think the Powercolor card (230mm x 111mm x 41mm) is shorter than the Sapphire (280.85 x 126.47 x 42 mm), but double-check before buying.

The MSI card (232x 126 x 46 mm) you linked is obviously better as far as VFM goes. The clock speed difference will literally amount to nothing and is something you can alter with a few minutes of your own time anyway.

oh nice find :D

found the specs for my case last night https://www.overclockers.co.uk/fractal-design-define-r4-midi-tower-case-black-window-ca-038-fd.html if the info there is correct i should be able to fit the cards easy with my hdd cage installed.

im really edging to the pulse now, i have been reading that the thermal pads on the msi cards are a bit dodgy apparently and been hearing nothing but praise for the pulse :)

  • Graphics cards up to 295mm in length with the top HDD cage installed
  • With the top cage removed, graphics cards up to 430mm in length may be installed

2325 is what the rx 480 scores on the valley benchmark in my dads comp with the phenom II he runs it through is 1080p panasonic plasma tv :p

just got the 5700 today dang nice looking card and never knew that the sapphire writing on it lights up bright red, looks awesome through the case window :D

not sure if he had vsync enabled as his fps didnt seem to go much past 60.

With the previous gen cards some manufacturers (like XFX) used much better quality components on their custom cards than others, including MSI. So there might be a difference.

the 5700 pulse is barely longer than my old rx480 reference but long enough for a difference to be noticed and much deeper, still got loads of room between end of card and my hdd cage which has a limit of 295cm :)

msi heat spreaders are dodgy from what i read and seen for the memory when deciding what card to get.

the pulse is mental for quietness and temps so far, just wonder how much my 6600k is bottleknecking it lol

gpu-z has reported 99% use though on the gpu core after playing borderlands 3 maxxed :)

whats a good cpu one to see usage?

Well, I was using a 6600k until last month and I reckon it was holding back a 980Ti a little in some instances. I guess it will vary on the game but make sure you overclock it to get the best out your 5700.

hehe cheers :) im planning on getting a ryzen, just gotta save up again, i bought 16gb of kingston hyperx ddr 4 3200 a wee while back and i have a 8 gig kit spare, this main board won't let it run at full but i want to use the memory with a ryzen board, just not sure what ones are compatable with it.

when i do that ill give my dad this board and cpu and spare memory sticks, then he can get full use out of his new/old rx 480 :)

I would think that most AM4 socket boards will be fine with that memory. I believe AMD recommend 3200 - 3600 for Ryzen 3000.

ah kool i was under the impression that ryzen boards were very picky on the memory, is that only if it is gonna get overclocked?

i would be running one stock and would be happy if this mem hit it's xmp speeds :)

I think the memory speed compatibility is better than it initially was when Ryzen first launched, though off-hand I can't remember what the absolute minimum is that's acceptable (2666?). In any case, I wouldn't go lower than 3000/3200. It's early days for me, but jumping from stock to just XMP alone seemed to make a noticeable difference.
