What 8800GT should I get?

Ok so end of september i treated myself to a shiny new BFG 8800GTS OC2 320mb... only to start hearing about the new 8800GT being better blah blah blah.

Anyway, ive decided i now want a 8800GT.

Now i have no immediate desire to overclock this card as i dont think the rest of my system will do it justice. So i will be holding off til the new year when i buy some more new parts to overclock it.

So my questions are:

What card should i be buying? I can sell the 8800 GTS off for a small loss and should be able to afford up to £200. Now if i am better suited to get a factory overclocked card or should i get a card thats cheaper and overclock it when i come round to it? Are the quality of the GPU's still touch and go? Or do i stand a good chance of getting a decent decent overclock form a standard cheap card?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Jon

I just went through this so hopefully have some insight :)

£200 will cover any board, so you may as well go for the best.

Most of the early boards for all manufacturers are made by nVidia anyway, so I've heard. So there will be almost no difference between them at this point.

Down to overclocking, warranty and other details, then. You could go one end and get the OcUK branded one to save money, or get a Leadtek, BFG, Asus or EVGA overclocked version.

Personally I went for the BFG due to the warranty and that they are more experienced selling pre-overclocked cards than most manufacturers, but I don't think you can go too wrong with any card at the moment.

They are good clocks on the BFG and it i doubt you would get to much higher clocking the card yourself, for the sake of £20, its a good deal.

I wouldn't go near evga tbh simply for the fact you have to rma all the way to germany if anything ever goes wrong.
Bfg rma turnaround is about 48 hours so i hear.

EVGA is quite poor despite what people say, so I'd agree there. If I was getting any brand of 8800 GT I'd want a BFG mainly due to their lifetime warranty and excellent RMA service. Problem is the BFG cards tend to carry a larger premium over the normal style / lower warranty cards. Basically unless you are getting an "OC" BFG model then they are all the same speed and cards anyway.

yea why not pick the cheapest with a free game?

1st year warranty = with OCUK anyway

Asus has 2 years, so after 2 years it wont be worth RMA'ing anyhow!

Yeah it depends how often you upgrade. I rarely keep any card for longer than 12 months, and never more than 24.

Club 3D seem the best value atm. One year's warranty is enough for me with graphics cards for obvious reasons. I don't mind a slow RMA service, I could just buy a replacement in the meantime and sell the one they return. :)

Chances of a card dying in its first year are not high. If you buy them often you would probably get 1 or 2 in a lifetime.
