What 980 ? From 970

Hi all

So i sent my 970 back as im just not happy with it long term. My question is what 980 do i go for? I will be watercooling it and eventually going sli.

So my options are the gigabyte g1 (great overclock)

Evga overclocked one

The cheap MSI one (lousy overclock but i will be fitting a full waterblock.

Not sure what to go for tbh. Or any other suggestions for the £450 ish budget

EVGA if fitting a waterblock. In fact, I'd just go EVGA anyhow.

£450 would buy a Gigabyte windforce not a G1. I would go for an evga

Good card yes. Or you could save yourself 20 quid and clock yourself for the sake of moving a couple of sliders. See link!

This is the card i am going to grab, seems like a good option. Really trying to keep heat down to a minimum

Decided against xfire 290 on the basis of heating my room up too much in the summer, and the fact i can then sli the 980 in 18 months or so

Louder? Not unless you wack 100% fan
Higher temps? Overclocked at 50% and only doing 55c ish
Lower Clocked? True, however as even Gibbo stated it's a bit of a lottery, you can get a clocked chip and only get 50mhz out of it, or a lower clocked one and be as fast as the most expensive one if not more.

Asic value usually gives a good indication

Btw the SOC use cheap fans as do the MSI, I know, I've used both

Gigabyte however, fantastic GPU

Noise is irrelevant due to its going to have a waterblock fitted. Do they all have the same make of memory chips etc

Hynix - Awful
Samsung - Good

Mine has Samsung, I have heard of some getting the worst kind though... Again it's a lottery

Hmmm, i guess short of taking the backplate off and looking in the shop its inpossible to tell what your going to get.
