What a caper!

I've just been munching on some capers out of a jar, and I started wondering what the hell they actually taste like before they're pickled...because I realised I've never seen or tasted them unpickled. For those who aren't aware, capers are floral buds, and I reckon they must taste awfully odd before they get the spirit vinegar treatment.
 
i'v never thought about it, but i assume the saltyness is synthetic?

It can go down as another of life's mysteries :)

(edit: btw, the title is genious :D)
