What a difference being cheap makes

As you may have read in my previous thread about deciding on what tyres to get, I ended up changing to non run flats and going for the Falken 452 after camskill were out of stock of the Kumhos. Wow, what a difference! No more crashing over bumps, it feels just like it should and so sure when going round roundabouts enthusiastically.

I can't think why I didn't do it sooner. £472 for the tyres and £30 for fitting and balancing from a local fitter. Bargain in my eyes.:D

Ditto - just got some on the back of the MR2, shall certainly be replacing the fronts with the same once they need doing.

The back end is actually so grippy now that I'm really wishing I had an LSD!

New tyres versus old is a significant difference here. Plus soft sidewalls, whilst good for comfort, can have a negative effect on handling.

This is a major factor often missed when people talk about tyre x versus y - I'm in complete agreement with you about the massive difference this makes.

My mate: 'These nankangs are cracking, why pay any more, they're so much better than my old F1s, I don't understand why you pay so much for your tyres when cheap ones are just as good'. Yes, but your F1s were shagged so anything new would be an improvement.

People say 'I much preferred tyre x to tyre z', it becomes a meaningless comparison when one set is new and one set is old, and 'remembering' what your old set were like when they were new well enough to make a proper comparison is pretty much impossible.

They are good budget tyres but I wouldnt get carried away, most of these improvements you mention are as a result of them not being RFT's, not of them being FK452's. You'd have had the same ride improvements etc with LingLongs

Tis probably true, but I am pleased as punch with them. Had I not had a nail in the front one, I would have run them for a lot longer as they had about 3mm of tread all around.

£500 is a bargain when you consider that replacing all 4 would cost nearer £1000 for the runflats. (275/45/18Y)
