I woke up at 11:30am (I slept for 12 hours, so what! :p) and there was an envelope pushed under my bedroom door with the writing "Here is something a little extra, Love Mummy x x x".

So I open it and she had given me £500 to help me on my way to China and buy some things before I leave. I know it's not like OMGZ0R a LOT of money, but I was always taught the true value of money when I was a child.

If I was 16, I'd just jump up and down in joy but I can't help but feel guilty about it. I have 3 brothers and 1 sister and my mum raised all of us by herself whilst still working. When I was growing up, this would've been a hell of a lot of money.

So, to my suprise, it's upset me more than made me happy. :( I know I'm going to live in China and she just wants me to be ok over there, but I guess I just feel like I don't deserve it.

Eurgh, horrible feeling. :o

That's truly fantastic of her :) Sure, you feel bad for taking it, but it's really in your best interest - you're moving to an entirely new country and budgeting may be difficult at first.

Yeah, it's a lot of money for her to hand over, and you haven't done anything to "deserve" it, but you're her son and she's your mother - looking out for you :)

Don't give it back, but spend it wisely :)

I know the feeling  but you cant realy give it back as it makes your mom feel bad.
I guess you should buy her a nice thankyou bunch of flowers before you go and maybe send her a nice gift when you get there.

that was really nice of her. i hope you treat your mummy with the love and respect she deserves. (i dont think shes looking to be repaid back but it was a nice jesture if you did and then some)

hope you have a safe journey and enjoy it over in china :)

You are 22 and call your mother mummy?

Indeed! Even so, a lovely gesture & if she's anything like my mam you'll insult her by doing anything other than what she tells you with her gift :)

She calls herself Mummy to me. It's an inside joke 'cause I've always been a bit of a Mummy's boy. :o

Whenever my brothers did anything wrong, I used to go straight home and tell on them! haha! Once, my brother gave me £5 (a lot then) so that I didn't tell my mum something so I said "Ok", took the money and went straight home to tell her.

I just couldn't lie, or not tell the truth when she asked what I'd been up to.

At least it's not "mom". ;)

True, that would deserve a harsh punishment :p
