What about PC-BSD?

PC-BSD isn't a Linux distribution. GUI wise you won't really see anything. But under the hood, there are many subtle differences.

No reason why it shouldn't.

Driver support for desktop components. The BSDs do not have the kind of hardware support that Linux does. If you've got an atheros chip that works on Linux, it might not work on *BSD. I have used cards with ath9k chips that work fine in Linux, that throw out all sorts of errors and need tweaking on BSD. If you have an Intel wireless chipset, forget about it. Especially AC. Hunting down compatible hardware for BSD is more of a pain in the ass than Linux.

Server hardware support on the other hand is usually very good. My dual CPU supermicro board works flawlessly with the latest FreeBSD.

Jordan Hubbard did an interesting talk a while back about FreeBSD getting left behind and how FreeBSD, and BSD in general needs to step up it's game, start thinking about dropping old ancient support and moving forward. Looks like he took his time at Apple seriously.

That's fair enough but the OP was asking if BSD would work on his setup. I couldn't see anything in his sig that would give issues hence my answer...
