what advantages

I don't understand what you mean. ATX is the standard motherboard size, therefore it is by definition "full size".

There are boards that are larger than ATX, but these are usually top-end boards where more features are being crammed in (or in the case of dual socket boards a lot of extra kit).

Do you mean M-ATX boards over ATX ?

FFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

i meant atx over micro atx, I will edit the op to try and hide my shame...:o

The main difference is the PCI slots, m-atx can be just as good as ATX but it does depend on what make / model your after.

Indeed, though with micro ATX boards, manufacturers tend to include less robust power electronics and onboard cooling (mainly due to space and cost). Therefore, these small boards usually either overclock worse than comparable full ATX boards or run hotter (and in many cases both).

the reason i ask is i was looking to get the antec mini p180 which only supports micro atx, but i have seen other cases which only differ in size by 4cm depth and height but support atx mobos. So I was wondering whether i should get a slightly bigger case so I can use an atx. Thoughts?

I would certainly suggest going for a bigger case.

If you like the look of the P180, the P183 looks very similar and supports ful ATX boards.

I went from a p180 to a p193 which I'm very happy with.

yep i think i will plump for the bigger case, now when it comes to mobo's i need to make a decision, i don't want to spend more than a 100 quid but i want it to fit in with the colour scheme (black, white with a little blue) as i am very obsessive about these things. Mobos that i have found which reach the requirements so far:
  • MSI 870A-G54
  • MSI 890GXM-G65
  • Asrock 890GM Pro3

Any experience with these boards?
