Hi

I have never built or done a full upgrade to a PC (Ram plus Graphics card and similar only), so after I upgrade the Motherboard, GPU, PSU, CPU and optical drive, would I need to reinstall Windows (Currently running XP Home) or format my Hard drive. Is there anyway of getting around this as I really don't want to reinstall/format.

Here is the Motherboard I will hopefully getting.

Also, If I just re-install windows how do I partion my drive, I have looked around on the Internet and my computers partioning thing in the computer management dialog isn't the same.
Step by step guides would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You don't have to reformat.

Just make sure you delete All drivers (properly, using DriverSweeper) before unplugging all your current hardware and installing new stuff.

Hi yeah almost always you have to reinstall windows after a new motherboard is installed.

Just quick NTFS format the whole drive, no need to partition.

and install windows again, all your drivers will come with the new motherboard, graphics card etc.

is a simple enough process after all the parts are installed.

I got away with deleting all drivers in device manager then setting up the new motherboard. All drivers self installed (apart from the mobo drivers which you'll need the disk for) and it's still working a month down the line. I will do a complete reinstall when I have some spare time :)

It does work though. If you're lucky!

Ok, I think I'll try putting the XP disk in first, if that fails I'll delete all the drivers, if that then fails, I'll do a complete re-install. :(

Thanks for the help guys, much appreciated. :)

edit: About uninstalling the drivers in Device Manager, do I uninstall ALL of the drivers of just most of them? To uninstall them I just right click and select Uninstall right?
