I've got my PC Spec'd...

1 x E6700 Retail (Already Purchased!)
1 x Asus P5WDG2-WS Professional
1 x Asus 8800GTX
1 x Corsair HX620 PSU
1 x CellShock 2 GB PC8000
1 x Apevia / Aspire X-Cruiser Case
1 x Asus 22" TFT Monitor

-----------------------------------------------
The final missing piece is a decent cooler, so what does everyone recommend

I will be OC'ing it so think the stock cooler should be changed, even though I got a retail box (It was cheap!!!)

It needs to fit, so what ever people recommend here is a picture of the Mobo for reference.

Many thanks 1DMF

You won't need pc8000 with a 6700 unless you plan on getting 5ghz ;) And that case is crap, you want something nice for a rig like that :)

As for coolers the 3 that have been said are some of the best, the 9500/9700 are also good though and the Thermalright Utra 120.

They will both fit but I would seriously consider buying the Geil 800mhz RAM. You can save about £50, get the same performance and use that money saved towards a better case. The case you have picked atm is pretty rubbish, loads of plastic, 80mm fans, pressed steel etc.

well I've read some good reviews on the x-cruiser case. It's also supose to adhere to Intel's specific guides on optimal thermal design for cooling!

I won't get the geil due to seing to many posts with issues on this memory, and seings as money isn't the issue, i've heard nothing but praise for the cell shock memory.

I was concidering getting the kandalf LCS as a case but got fed up waiting for it to come in stock.

I do like the XG Dragon case, would that be a better case than the aspire?

Or maybe the Viper?

Ignore that, i think its just marketing rubbish. Applies to every case ever conceived.

Indeed, this is the very definition of "ATX compliant".

Here're all the form factor specifications in explicit detail: http://www.formfactors.org/formfactor.asp
Any case manufacturer needs to meet the specs as to ensure compatability with motherboards, PSUs, etc.

All horrid cases ><

Try something from Akasa, Lian Li, Silverstone, some coolermasters, Zalmans and Antecs.

hmmm I guess there is no accounting for taste.

I would never ever buy a Lian , talk about butt ugly! (i know it's not just what it looks like, but it has to appeal to my eye as well as my wallet)

Akasa is Lian's even uglier sister, the Zalman's aren't towers except the ugly cousin, or the the £250.00 case which is too much money and out of stock anyhow.

The Antec 900 don't look too bad i guess though i've seen someone post it's not that good a case, plus it has some weird bit at the back which might hinder component space.

how about the CoolMaster Stacker 830 - i might go for that one!

Friend, your eyes are leading you into the land of the awful case. Everything your eyes like, I'm sorry to say, is rubbish. You have to decide if you want a good quality case or a good looking one. It seems that your eyes/brain are not going to let you have both qualities. It's just a shame that you're only drawn towards the bad ones, because Lian Li make some of the best cases around, and believe me, they look 100 times better in the flesh. For the rig you're putting together there it would be a travesty to put it in some of the cases you're mentioniong, it really would! The Stacker 830 is a diabolical case. Just look at some of the comments it's received in these forums. Now go find me negative comments about Lian Li. There are VERY few. How you can say these cases are butt ugly is beyond me - some models are not to my taste appearance wise, but there is quite a variation within their range. And they are plain at worst, hardly ugly, but as I say they look SO much better in person. I don't see how anyone could take offence to a Lian Li.

Anyway, it comes down to what's more important to you - looks or quality? Simple as that.

:)

Oh, you're one of 'those' people.

Believe me, buy the piece of crap cases you have looked at and you will soon grow bored of them. Then compare themw ith a good case such as some I mentioned and you won't believe the difference in quality.

is there no case that offers function & form ?????

i even compromise and choose a coolermaster as per recomendations and even that you say is rubbish.

so now i ask , forgetting looks, what makes a case rubbish compared to the butt ugly lian li ?

how is its reputation justified, even the missus thinks it's bland and boring at best!

I might as well get a HP case and hide it in the corner like the servers at work!!!!

edit
Oh, you're one of 'those' people.
and what are those people???

I want function and form why is it like trying to find the holy grail!!!!

Clearly not one that you like!

The Stacker 830 is a piece of poo. Fact.

Build quality, cooling (very important if you are OC'ing), ease of installation, general appearance (quality of materials), and pretty much anything else you can think of that a case should do.

It does all of the above (and more) EXCEPTIONALLY well. If you have not seen one, or installed in one, you are in no position to criticise Lian Li. I know people like you who've said they hate them, but then when they actually come to USE one they can't stop singing it's praises. Find me one person who hates their Lian Li! And then look at all the people who've bought rubbish cases based on their looks and regret it several months later.

If you want to hide a case, hide a Lian Li, but I bet you won't when you get it. Take a look at the A10 model.

Yep, Silverstone TJ-07, numerous Lian Lis but clearly you don't like them.

I did say some coolermasters, didn't I? ;)

Build quality and longevity. Look after it and a Lian Li will still be in great condition 5 years down the line and still worth near what you paid for it, the cheap ones will fall apart put bluntly.

Bland... maybe a little but most people would consider them refined. They have great build quality and design.

Would be better than the cases you have picked so far.

Those people are people who go for gaudy christmas tree-esque cases because they glow.

1dmf, how do you like the look of the Antec Nine Hundred on sale in this Week Only? How about the Thermaltake Tsunami Dream?

EDIT: I'm particularly fond of the Lian-Li PC-V600. It's really a GORGEOUS case in person. Photos don't do it justice.

i agree with the missus !!! I'd rather go rack mount than buy a lian!

A case last 5 years??? none of my cases last a year without me putting my foot through the damn thing!

I think the missus sums it up nicely , if I get a case I think looks good at least I might think twice before kicking it - and never a truer word spoken in jest.

the case I currently have I can't get the side panel on properly anymore, it's buckled that much from me booting it.

at the end of the day if I do get a case and hate it, i can always buy another one!
