What Air-Cooler to use.

someone needs to do a cooler review to see which is the best cooler around, silent pc review says that the ultra120 is better than the ninja. and others are saying that the tuniq tower is better than the ninja too.

that means its out of the ultra120 and the tuniq tower to see who the champ is. but not seen any reviews where these 2 coolers are found together.

Nor me.
You are absolutely right, we need a review of those two or preferably all three.

doesn't seem to have any teperature gauges/indicators or fan speed contols?

Please please please dont fall for those gauges and indicators. I have had so many cases with those in and every one has turned out to be a let down - i actually tested one of the thermal probes on my case against a scienctific probe and it was around 7 degrees out  . To be honest i would buy a case without one and get a bay controller board :) an especially nice one too lol.

Secondly - just MY OPINION on cases ,

Akasa Eclipse 62 - my mate has one , its far from "overly plasticy" it has a nice feel and is brilliant to work with.

OR

Antec 900 - to be honest ive only read good reviews , and i like the internal layot personally.

one last thing would be to check a local PC fair//market ( if you have one - here in reading there is one every month ). There is a LOAD OF TWODDLE , but ocasionally there is a really individual case that might take your fancy , just watch out for build quality :)

Also while on the subject of coolers, i have a Zalman CNPS9500-AT cooler , and in my opinion its just brilliant. Might not offer the absoloute absoloute best cooling but it works on par with my mates tuniq tower , and its bloody quiet. Not to mention it has quirky looks, which i think are quite cool lol :)

Anyways , thats my take on things. Good luck and let me know what you get :)

Regards,

Nomisf

I have been drawn to the antec 900, but i've nearly gone for a totaly different case.... drum roll ........ Nzxt Lexa

it has...

COOLING SYSTEM FRONT, 1 X 120 mm (included)
REAR, 1 X 120 mm Blue LED Fan (included)
SIDE PANEL, 1 X 120mm Blue LED (included)
TOP, 1 X 80mm Fan (included)

that's 3 x 120mm fans and 1 x 80mm all included plus a teperature LCD display, and it looks nice... now surely that's a good compromise!

I know part of it is plastic but it is toolless , plenty of cooling and a gimic LCD display and for only 88 quid all in , I think for me it's a winner.

but i'm sure someone here will shoot me down in flames :D

Vanessa-L tested better than the tuniq tower in the Tom's Hardware review... Quieter and cooler at load and idle, took the win across the board really. But that's the only useful review I've seen. I'd like to see all 4 done head to head with a couple of different cases.

At the end of the day, all 4 are great coolers... I seriously doubt anyone would be unhappy with any of them.

After reading the tomshardware review im torn between the tuniq and the vanessa, only the insallation of the vanessa puts me off with talk of damaging your cpu but this was with regard to amd processors.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone systematically ignore so much good advice in the history of the internet. Puzzles me why you even bothered asking for it in the first place. But each to his own. Hope you are happy with your case!

:)

Well firstly I actually initially asked for peoples input on the cooler , NOT the case.

2ndly How is looking at getting a case that has a multitude of 120mm fans vs a couple of 80mm fans not taking onboard peoples recommendation about cooling being more important than looks?

LoadsaMoney -> thanks, glad to see there is someone else out their with taste ;)

Would you say 2 x 80mm fans is adequate, you say the x-crusier cools fine, would you say the Nzxt Lexa would cool better having 4 fans and 3 of them 120mm ?

Also from what I have read 120mm fans are more quite than 80mm fans, do you find this to be true?

Thanks,
1DMF

get the mirage!
its cheaper atm!
also, ninja is good for the money (3.2GHz E6300) although I've been wanting to try some of these uber Titan Amanda TTC-NP04TZ TEC & Heatpipe Cooling Fan (Socket 775) Titan Amanda TTC-NP04TZ TEC & Heatpipe Cooling Fan (Socket 775)
but at 60 quid! I'd rather have some more disk space!

Yeah, I was concidering originaly getting the amanda titan, but i'm concerned whether there will be enough room seings as I will have an 8800GTX in the first PCI-e slot and a U320 SCSI card in the second PCI-x slot.

plus the board already has a silent heatpipe construction near the CPU, wouldn't this get in the way?

the DS4? shouldn't do, the ninja fits.
its quite a way above the board.
and I'd mount it the other way, so that its wide rather than tall.

I know it wouldn't do if we all had the same tastes, but isn't that the ugliest thing on the planet? I like the gimmicky temperature displays, but I never look at the readout on my P160, so they are really only a gimmick.

I couldn't bring myself to buy a Lian Li unless I won the lottery, they are just over priced in my opinion, but I do like the way they look.

I rather like it... If it lives up to its spec, it should be a good case. Don't understand why the top fan is only an 80... But the one directly over the graphics card is a good addition, i've bodged one of those into my Zen and it does make a difference. Seems to have another 80mm vent without a fan in the base, too. The side window doesn't exactly show a beautiful view, mind... But then, I don't like windows, so I would say that.

*Looks at Lian Li*

It was £52... Cheapest I can find the P160 is £77.
