What am i "missing" about ipods?

The Clix 2 certainly isn't an alternative to the iPod Classic. :p

8GB vs 160GB.

I'd say

Nano - Clix 2
Classic - Cowon D2 (removable SD storage)
Touch - Cowon S9 (better audio quality, better video quality, more formats, completely customisable UI, better battery life, but nowhere near as many apps)

I have a question for iPod users - how often do you get firmware updates? I love Cowon but they're really slow with their firmware, the S9 only gets a new firmware once every few months. But they've addressed a lot of the bugs the users have found so it's not too bad.

See I can't take you seriously if you use different MP3 players for different genres of music! That's way beyond the vast majority of people's level of care/quality of ears.

I said I prefered one over the other, not that I used them solely for different genres.

People obviously listen like they read...

You're edging towards the sort of person who complains his music doesn't sound good enough because the electricity in his house is dirty :p

No idea I've never tried it. Have you? A qood quality power supply is considered important for computers, networking, etc. A MP3 player is much like a computer. Its has memory, a CPU, and OS, Sound card, DAC, Amplifier etc. I would imagine it would be effected by a poor power supply. Thats only a guess but it seems logical.

The only complaints I've heard about low powered MP3 players is that they are unable to drive some (usually the better) earphones properly.

TBH I've not noticed any faults, with the touch. I dunno how many updates, 2 over 2 yrs? I had problems with a previous Classic and Shuffle that nothing fixed, so either chucked them or sold them. Not had any firmware updates on my Samsung or Sony players. Not noticed any problems on the Sony. Creative seem to update theres a bit. Haven't had a recent creative player though as the SQ did nothing for me.

Could the ipod bashers please list:

-One device superior to an iPod Nano
-One device superior to an iPod Classic
-One device superior to an iPod Touch

As I am looking for a new MP3 player, and need some alternatives to Apple?

kthxbye!

Those are very different players. are you going to buy all 3 or one of them? Or similar in other brand?

totally wrong from my experience.

my samsung mp3 players in the past where terribly built. same with a creative that i had all kinds of problems with

Funny same experience here. Returned so many creatives I stopped buying them.

and using her phone shouldnt even come into it. will drain the battery in no time if its anything like any of the phones ive used for such purposes

Yeah I tried that for a while, and had the same problem. Easier (for me anyway) to carry a small MP3 aswell and both phone and MP3 player will have great battery life.

Not so much problems as new features.

I loved my iPod touch when I had it, that led me to an iPhone, got bored till I jailbroKKed, eventually got bored with that, got a HTC Hero. Android phones are what people who likes to tinker dream. Also, I find that the audio quality from my iPhone to my Hero to exactly the same, but with android you have the option to playback *.flac files

Flac + really decent headphones you cannot beat IMO.

I have wondered though, what is the camera quality of these new nanos like? And I always thought that top end iRiver MP3 players were a match for iPods.

Apple lossless and flac are identical.

So the only difference after that would be the audio hardware in the phone. I read on head fi that the iPhone 3gs is much improved sq over the 3g iPhone and probably the best mobile for music.

How does the audio hardware compare between the 3gs and the phone you are talking about?

I'm not a fan of Ipods and even more so now. My mp3 player broke recently so I've been using my other halfs Ipod nano (Pink :( ) and I really thought there would be no difference in sound quality but there is it's simply rubbish.

I've had quite a few different ones as well. Sony, Iriver, Samsung, Creative, Zune.

Theres been 5 generations of Nano. No idea which one you are talking about. I've never heard one, but I've not heard glowing reports about their SQ either. Of course not all iPods sound the same.

Anyone mentioning the word "lifestyle" when talking about apple products deserves castration and a salt bath.

If they sold a bush walkman with an apple logo on it, with a free starbucks voucher, fair trade chocolate and an autographed bag containing the farts of Steve Jobs it would still sell as they know how to advertise to young people.

Mine cost me £40 with my mac (post rebate) so a 2nd gen 16 gig touch is suddenly a bargain! :D

Only really got it as my (LIME GREEN!!) zen's battery lasted for about 3-4 hours after 2 years and crashed every other day. Bit sad as it was lime green and iv only ever seen one other person with it in that colour, but the touch is better to use and is really easy to make play lists on the go, which iv never done before!

Oh yeah and itunes is miles better in osx, cant look back to the windows world

When buying from Apple you're not just buying hardware, you're buying into the whole circlejerk experience.
