Something obvious I haven't done?

I've just got an IcyBox NAS, all the services seem to be working, I've port forwarded 21 to it, to enable FTP access remotely.

I can access it remotely, but download from it at speeds of 5-6k, when the line maxes out at ~63k... This is shown by someone on an identical connection being able to upload to it at ~60k. I know it's not a problem with the NAS, as I can FTP over the LAN and transfer at ~10Mbps.

I did turn off passive FTP to try and force it to use 21, but that had no effect. I've tried using SmartFTP and the built-in Windows capabilities, but get the same slow speeds.

I've now tried downloading a file from the thttpd server I've installed and get the same speeds, so it seems like it's an issue with the NAS rather than the port forwarding. Maybe I should move over to the IcyBox NAS forums.

Or could a mod move this thread to the Hard Drives forum please, seems that's where it should be more... Does one hang around here much? :)

I've been using Google to translate those pages to try and work out the torrent options :p Signed up now though.

Downloading the MTU modifier and changing the MTU to match that of the router (1458) did the trick :)
