Hi there guys,

I've done just over 500 miles this week in my Saxo, spent around £55 doing it (well government has) and it is not suitable for the mileage I am doing.

I have had a test drive in a Skoda Fabia VRS, Grande Punto JTD Sporting and Astra CDTi SRI 150.

My mates have been saying "why not an 03/04 320/330D" and I have been saying I need warranty.

Do I though? Would a BMW diesil cost me much to run?

I'm not keen on the Mondeo ST TDCI or the Octavia and Vectra's.

A3/3 series size is what I am after.

The mileage I am doing isn't sitting in the car for hours about 30-40 miles a go.

If you have to ask "do BMWs cost much to run" they probably arent for you.

Servicing isnt cheap. And why if your not happy going 500 miles a week in saxo are you looking at shopping trolleys

Fabia, Astra, Punto etc.. are all designed to take women to the shops. Not munch the motorways.

Problem being, 500 miles is hardly munching the motorways either. Hell, I do 300-ish a week in a Roadster! If you're worried about running costs then a BMW isn't for you. However, if you own a Saxo, I can't see why you couldn't be a fan of a Mondeo ST - surely it wins in every conceivable way?

That's what I thought, I used to do silly miles a week in a 306, spending the likes of £50-£60pw on fuel, and that was a 1.9D, nothing wrong with doing that mileage and at that cost.

I think the ST TDCi is a tad bargey and the MPG is far from spectacular.

I've owned the Saxo for 2 years, it is a very fun car to drive but I feel too cramped in it!

For me it'd be a 530d or 320/330d (well, it wouldn't - I'd get a petrol again). It'll be higher mileage and older for 9k though.

Mondeo ST or Fabia VRS are surely going to be your best bets. Astra, Focus or Punto are just going to feel cheap after spending 9k on one. That sort of budget is suited for 330d's and Honda Civic (06+) in my opinion, and both of those are going to cost you a lot in servicing. I'd say drop your budget to £4 - £5k, get a Mondeo, and pocket the rest.

I don't like barges.

The Fabia's handling is pure shocking and they look BLAND imo.

The only reason why I was thinking Punto/Astra is because they'd have waranty.

No car = no work = no money.

The Grande Punto sporting is a decent looking car imo.

Crazy idea;

05 1.3CDTI Corsa 65mpg cheap tax and small and then buy a £300 warranty and still have lots of money left over
