I am in a position to buy the 5960x in the next 6 weeks. It will be running along side three Titan Xs. I don't do much else other than gaming. Skylake sounds like it won't be the top of the range product what with it being only Quad core?

What are the likely time scales on the 5960x replacement and what is it likely to be specification wise?

Q3 2016 is Skylake E apparently. X100 and most likely done faster 6 and 8 core chips. Truth is no one really knows outside of Intel at the moment. I would expect 5960 will last some considerable time given Win10 and DX12 are out soon meaning you should get even more out of your CPU. I look more at the motherboard features you may use or need as I think you'll have plenty of power for some time.
